CAUTION: Spoilers Ahead For Thor: Love & Thunder
Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale). In addition to Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman returns as Dr. Jane Foster but this time with a twist—she can wield Mjölnir now, and has inherited the powers of Mighty Thor. The two must work together to save the fate of the Asgardians.
After the success of Taika Waititi's Matt Damon makes a Love & Thunder cameo in this scene, reprising his role as fake Loki alongside Chris Hemsworth's older brother Luke Hemsworth as fake Thor, and Sam Neill as fake Odin.
In addition to the returning cast, Thor: Love & Thunder features a cameo from Melissa McCarthy as fake Hela. Sporting Cate Blanchett's green and black catsuit, McCarthy acts the part of Thor's older sister as Ben Falcone directs her as stage manager. While Falcone is only shown in a wide shot, his role as stage manager furthers the joke beyond a Thor: Ragnarok callback. As Melissa McCarthy's real-life husband Ben Falcone has frequently shared the screen with his wife, albeit to varying results. While the two are successful in small scenes together, such as in Bridemaids or Spy, they often fail to capture that comedic chemistry in their full-length collaborations.
Melissa McCarthy's Love & Thunder Cameo Goes Further Than You Realized
Thor: Love & Thunder furthers this by accidentally including a meta-joke about their work together.
Despite Melissa McCarthy's recent denial of her Love & Thunder role on Jimmy Fallon, she and Falcone are self-itted fans of Marvel's God of Thunder. Therefore, it makes perfect sense that Waititi would find a way to honor the couple's 2020 social media request to be in the next Thor installment. The short revival of the Asgardian theater troupe works as a fun gag to include the couple while gentling parodying them. While the MCU Phase 4 movie may be accused by some of repeating Ragnarok's jokes, McCarthy's Thor: Love & Thunder cameo adds another level of hilarity beyond the same old sight gags.
