The new Avengers: Endgame. Many questions remain unanswered regarding Thor, such as who is protecting the Nine Realms now that Odin (Anthony Hopkins) is gone. The trailer presents a possible solution to this problem.

The issue of Odin's absence began in Thor: Ragnarok. In the film, Odin died and unleashed Hela (Cate Blanchett) from her mystical prison. After Thor battled Hela and released the fire demon Surtur to destroy Asgard with Hela inside, he and the citizens of Asgard set out for Earth in a spaceship provided by Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Sadly, they were immediately intercepted by Thanos (Josh Brolin). When Thanos snapped half the universe out of existence, the remaining Asgardians immigrated to Earth, where Thor remained in a state of guilt and depression. The Avengers eventually called Thor back to the team so they could travel through time and bring back those who had been snapped out of existence. After winning the battle against Thanos, Thor ed the Guardians of the Galaxy as they returned to space to search for Gamora.

Although Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) currently resides as King of New Asgard, Thor has been busy dealing with infinity stones and denizens of Thanos that he has not had the chance to address who is protecting the Nine Realms now that Odin and Heimdall (Idris Elba) are dead. The Thor: Love and Thunder trailer perfectly sets up the introduction of the Congress of Worlds, which would solve this problem. In the Thor comics, the Congress of Worlds gathers representatives from each of the Nine Realms to discuss issues affecting the cosmos and decide what must be done. With the inclusion of so many new Gods and villains in Thor: Love and Thunder, the Congress of Worlds would be the perfect solution to both the absence of Odin and the numerous problems facing multiple realms in the wake of Avengers: Endgame.

The Thor: Love and Thunder trailer introduced the villain perfect for uniting the Congress of Worlds against a common enemy. The villain in Thor: Love and Thunder, Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), desires to kill all gods. This threat could unite the various gods across the cosmos to communicate and protect each other since Odin the All-Father can no longer help and protect the realms, and Thor is overwhelmed with various problems of his own. With so many different gods being threatened, including Zeus (Russel Crowe), Gorr would give them all a common purpose that would cause them to unite and defeat Gorr and establish the Congress of Worlds.

Also, in the Thor comics, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is a senator for Midgard within the Congress of Worlds. Now that she is being reintroduced to the MCU as the Mighty Thor, she may be able to help bridge the gap between the Nine Realms by participating in the Congress of Worlds as she does in the comics when she's not the Mighty Thor. Odin may have been the protector of the nine realms, but his legacy of war and conquest has tainted his title, and a new age of self-governed Realms is necessary for the Nine Realms to protect themselves and each other. The various Thors within Thor: Love and Thunder will likely make this transition into a united Congress of Worlds easier for the Gods to accept.

Thor: Love and Thunder has many questions to address regarding what Thor’s future will be, how Jane Foster came to wield Mjolnir, and of course, how will these heroes defeat Gorr and save the universe? Thor has many powers and allies, so the Congress of Worlds is not the only possible solution to the problems Thor faces. However, the Congress of Worlds would certainly solve many issues regarding Odin and the future of the Nine Realms in the MCU. One thing is for sure, after Thor: Love and Thunder, the Nine Realms and Thor will never be the same again.
