The new Thor: Ragnarok trailer may have offered up some new Marvel gems, but a few old comic book faces were nearly missed in the opening sequence. Some keen-eyed fans, noticed that the totem pole tower that appears in the city scape of Sakaar, next to the Grandmaster's gladiator arena, seems to have the faces of both Man-Thing and Beta-Ray Bill.

The swamp monster's face seems to be the first head in the stack with Beta-Ray's horse-like mug to the left just underneath, wearing a winged helmet similar to Thor's. In the comics, Bill was the first Marvel being outside the Norse pantheon to be able to wield Mjolnir,  having inadvertently ended up with the God of Thunder's power and costume. Afterward, the alien was given his own war hammer -- called Stormbreaker.

Bill and Man-Thing aren't the only characters' spotted on the totem as Ares, the Greek God of War, seems to be on the left side opposite Bill with Bi-Beast's double face just underneath. In early appearances, Ares was positioned as an adversary to both Thor and Hercules, but by 2006 that villainous back story was retconned to make him more an anti-hero who at one point fought with the Avengers. Bi-Beast has links to the Inhumans and came into with both Bruce Banner and Betty Ross (in Harpy form). Another version of the two-headed android also comes into with Thor and Iron Man several  years later.

Opposite Bi-Beast could either be the Hulk -- who we know is competing as a gladiator and will fight Thor -- or maybe Thanos, but in between them some s are suggesting that the face of Fin Fang Foom, the dragon-like extraterrestrial from the world of Kakaranathara, can be seen too.

At the moment, it's unclear if this totem pole is just multiple Easter eggs planted by director tease for what to expect in the film. Maybe Man-Thing, Beta-Ray Bill, Ares, Bi-Beast, and Fin Fang Foom are also under the control of the Grandmaster and must fight in the gladiator ring. It would be totally amazing to see them in action, even if it's just briefly, as surely Thor and Hulk's fight isn't the only one we're going to see?

It wouldn't be out of character for a Marvel movie to throw in a few random comic book characters for a brief cameo, as Guardians of the Galaxy featured both Howard the Duck and Cosmo the Spacedog. If all five of those faces appeared in more than totem pole form, Thor: Ragnarok would rock even harder.
