The end of <em>Heretic </em>sees Sister Paxton escaping the labyrinth of Mr. Reed, though it’s not clear if she’s alive and making a genuine escape, or if she’s dead and seeing some sort of afterlife. The fascinating film pushed the boundaries when it comes to religious horror, but left me wondering how to interpret the ending. I’m torn about Sister Paxton’s fate, but lean more toward the idea that she’s experiencing the afterlife she’s always imagined.
