NBCUniversal seemingly let it slip during their Upfronts that the title of the sequel to <em>The Super Mario Bros. Movie </em>is going to be <em>Super Mario World</em>, and I am a little more hopeful now compared to before. Not only is it an understandable extension of the first movie, particularly after the tease of Yoshi in the first movie, but it would also give a better story structure for Luigi to actually be involved in the film after being a very small part in the first movie.
