It's not unusual for the gaming industry to jump on trends from other titles. For example, Breath of the Wild wasn't the first open world game, but it was the first instance in The Legend of Zelda franchise, and several other games that had never been open world started doing so. For me, it's fishing in farming/life sim games. It annoyed me in Stardew Valley, and I got on with it, but now, I feel like every game in this genre has a fishing mini-game. I just want to fish without having to spam a button.
