As most people know, each zodiac sign is associated with certain traits describing a person's strengths and weaknesses depending on their birthdate. The well-developed characters of Throne of Glass demonstrate a wide range of complex personalities, which readers can try to make sense of by guessing what their zodiac sign would be.

Due to the constant symbolism associated with flames and the fierce lead heroines in the Throne of Glass books and Maas' other series, many would be quick to assign a fire sign to several of the characters. By delving into the complexities of each Throne of Glass character, readers can discover who they are most similar to, possibly changing who their favorite character is.

12 Aries - Aedion Ashryver

March 21 - April 19

Aedion is ionate and fiery enough to match his cousin, even if he lacks her flame magic. He demonstrates the classic Aeries traits of being confident and fierce, as well as being a good leader, commanding the Bane, one of the best regiments in Erilea. However, his temper is one of his worst qualities, as he takes out his anger about Aelin being captured on Lysandra. Aedion is a risk-taker and fighter, representing the best and worst of being an Aeries. Aeries is also ruled by the planet Mars, the god of war, alluding to Aedion’s position as a general.

11 Taurus - Rowan Whitethorn

April 20 - May 20

Rowan demonstrates the Taurus traits of being determined, focused, loyal, and stubborn through his fierce dedication to Aelin and the cause of reclaiming her throne. He has a more honed approach than some of the other characters, simply because he is much older and draws upon years of experience. His steady presence provides Aelin with stability, another trait associated with Taurus. He has the power and the personality to match her, but is more controlled compared to her impulsivity.

It is mostly Rowan's practicality, illustrated through his strategic thinking, and his unshakable loyalty that draw parallels between him and those born under Taurus.

Rowan might not be immediately easy to associate with the typical Taurus trait of enjoying relaxation and simple indulgence, but he perhaps learns to appreciate these things through Aelin. Anyone in a relationship with her would need to be able to listen to her talk for hours about books and music. However, it is mostly Rowan's practicality, illustrated through his strategic thinking, and his unshakable loyalty that draw parallels between him and those born under Taurus.

10 Gemini - Lysandra Ennar

May 21 - June 20

Gemini is most well-known for being symbolized by twins, which has many connections to its typical traits. For instance, Gemini is known to be very social, seeking out companionship and enjoying gossip. Lysandra not only craves friendship but says that she is looking for her next big romance. She reaches out to Aelin to make amends and forms a lifelong friendship, through which she meets and falls in love with Aelin's cousin. Lysandra also has the Gemini strength of adaptability, which take a unique form in her character.

This is, of course, Lysandra's shapeshifter powers, allowing her to take the form of any animal or person, so long as she has seen them before and can visualize them. She is one of the most powerful characters in Throne of Glass because of this ability and appears as many fascinating creatures throughout the story. Lysandra mostly escapes the typical Gemini weakness of "boring easily," (via PEOPLE) but it is clear that she is waiting for many amazing things to happen in her life.

9 Cancer - Yrene Towers

June 21 - July 22

First and foremost, Cancer is defined as being nurturing, making the connection to the character who is the ultimate healer obvious. Yrene is one of the best healers in the Throne of Glass world, dedicated to her patients and coming up with groundbreaking ways to treat them when it seems as though they cannot be cured. Her intuition when it comes to healing is also characteristic of Cancer. She also demonstrates the Cancer traits of being emotional, perhaps coming across as sensitive and moody.

When she first meets Chaol, Yrene wants little to do with him because of Adarlan's invasion of her home. While her feelings are justified, it creates a tumultuous, highly emotional dynamic between the two of them at first. This does not go away when they begin to develop feelings for each other and fight over his past relationships. However, Cancer should not be taken as timid and neither should Yrene; when Chaol insults her in a moment of anger, she forcefully and articulately stands up for herself.

8 Leo - Aelin Ashryver Galathynius

July 23 - August 22

Aelin being a fire sign seems like a given — which is why it is strange that in-story, she is a Taurus (her birthday is confirmed to be May 3). But the cosmos may work differently in their world. Aelin showcases many strong Leo traits, including confidence, charisma, and being a born leader. Aelin’s character arc revolves around her mastering her fire magic and coming into her own as a queen, making the fire sign associated with leadership qualities the perfect descriptor for her.

A Leo’s boldness may also go hand in hand with creativity and theatrics; in Queen of Shadows and Empire of Storms especially, Aelin’s showmanship and ability to create complex deceptions helps the heroes win more allies and advance their cause. Yet she is also occasionally brash and dominating, feeling she needs to assert her authority and show no weakness, especially with her enemies. Leos who relate to Aelin may also see how her most Leo traits are messily intertwined with the challenges she faces as a young queen.

7 Virgo - Elide Lochan

August 23 - September 22

Virgo is hardworking and excels at developing new skills, both of which Elide has had to do in order to survive. Elide was held captive by her uncle following Terrasen's fall, but slowly developed her own approach to fighting back. She is very clever and can create a new personality in a moment to negotiate transportation or lodging. Virgo's perfectionism sometimes turns into self-criticism, which Elide also occasionally demonstrates when she wonders what use she will be to her queen.

However, Elide is very valuable to Aelin's forming court because she can accomplish any task she sets her mind to and is generally a wise, encouraging presence who brings out the best in the others. Aelin calls Elide "the only civilized member of [her] court," and some of the more vicious characters certainly make an effort to treat Elide graciously. Additionally, Virgo's methodical "fixer" personality may draw them to people "who need fixing," (PEOPLE), which is perhaps why Elide ends up with closed-off Lorcan, determined to bring out the good in him.

Hulu’s A Court of Thorns and Roses could revitalize fantasy TV, and its success may determine the fate of another much-anticipated book adaptation.

6 Libra - Chaol Westfall

September 23 - October 22

Chaol is an archetypical Libra because he has a strong moral com and wants desperately to be a force of good, primarily through ing his best friend's claim to the throne. He seeks to find a balance between ending a tyrannical rule and minimizing violence. When he and Aelin make peace after the fallout of their relationship, he brings a sense of harmony and cooperation to the overall group dynamic. However, Chaol's indecisiveness is Libra's personality at its worst. It takes a long time for Chaol to figure out what side he's on and fully commit to overthrowing Dorian's father, harboring many reservations about Aelin.

5 Scorpio - Kaltain Rompier

October 23 - November 21

Scorpio is mysterious, silent, and determined; they are a turbulent water sign ruled by Pluto, the planet of destruction and transformation; they are intense and possibly harbor secret powers, but might be obsessive and temperamental. All these things speak of Kaltain, her scheming, and her dark magic. Kaltain is first introduced as a selfish courtier who hopes to manipulate her way into marrying the crown prince. However, when her plans are revealed, she is imprisoned and quickly becomes a more sympathetic character.

Kaltain is a mystery throughout the series, a classic Scorpio trait.

Kaltain becomes the unwilling host of a parasitic Valg Prince, something that should have rendered her incapable of any free will. Yet she gradually takes back control, and when magic returns to Erilea, she is ready to unleash a devastating attack on the villains. At this point, the reader knows the deadly nature of her Shadowfire, and seeing her use it against her enemies in one dramatic coup is very satisfying. Kaltain is a mystery throughout the series, a classic Scorpio trait.

4 Sagittarius - Dorian Havilliard

November 22 - December 21

Art by @morgana0anagrom

Sagittarius is said to be ionate, independent, and more uniquely, philosophical; they might also be interested in fantasy. Dorian is as determined as the rest of the main cast to save Erilea but has a certain whimsical streak that even Aelin lacks. When they first meet, Dorian and Aelin bond over a love for adventure novels and are drawn to each other because of their similar personalities. However, Dorian's story becomes more complicated when he discovers his own magical powers and the need for him to usurp his father becomes more pressing.

Characteristic of Sagittarius, Dorian asks a lot of questions about who he is and what role he is meant to play. In contrast, he is certain of who Aelin is and tells Chaol in a well-worded moment that he needs to come to with what Aelin is capable of. Sagittarius is also an adventurer, and Dorian is very curious and eager to try new things when he is not burdened by his actions potentially causing a life-threatening fallout.

3 Capricorn - Manon Blackbeak

December 22 - January 19

Art by @morgana0anagrom

Manon is as intense and committed as any Capricorn, who are said to be "workaholics" and deeply ambitious. Manon leads her coven to become the best Ironteeth witch legion through relentless training, and she is likely the most deadly witch alive. She also commits to getting Abraxos in the air, despite many believing her chosen wyvern is too weak to fly. She is harsh and may see herself as above being emotional, making it difficult for some of her friends and allies to be on the same page as her.

Manon's brutal nature is characteristic of Capricorn's less appreciable trait of being unforgiving. When Manon reaches a crossroads in her life in Queen of Shadows over where her loyalties lie, she finds herself at odds with the rest of her coven, especially her cousin Asterin. She takes out her anger on them, asserting that she is the one in charge. However, once they all make amends, Manon becomes even more dedicated to the Thirteen than she was before.
