Airing Tuesday, April 8 on ABC, The Rookie season 7, episode 13 saw Miles at a crossroads. After reuniting with an old teammate, he's offered a job that could solve his current housing predicament and reimmerse him in the world of football. When Miles opens up about the opportunity with Tim, he receives a surprising response. The training officer encourages him to stay in the program, itting that he's a good cop. Miles takes his words to heart and decides that Mid-Wilshire is where he belongs.

When speaking with ScreenRant, Deric Augustine discusses the impact Tim has had on his character. The actor believes he's the big brother Miles has always wanted and takes his lessons to heart. However, Tim is learning plenty from his new rookie, as well. Augustine continues on to say that Miles has taught Tim patience and how to be a mentor to his trainees. Read his full response below:

Deric Augustine: I think Miles has learned the majority of how to be a cop from Tim. In my acting, a lot of my substitution is for him to be my mentor, to be my big brother, and to learn from him. And Miles is doing that. Even like the little nuances of Miles trying to do what he wanted to do in that first episode when he was a little bit of a bravo guy and Tim said, "Hey, man, slow it down. Follow your rule book. This is what we do."

Those little things Miles has learned and gravitated to—it's in his essence now. Miles is always studying Tim, even though Tim is probably unaware of it. I think if this goes on to season 18, I think you're going to see a mini Tim in Miles. And I think Tim is learning patience from Miles. I think he's learning how to be a big bro to Miles—not just to Miles, but to any other trainee he's getting. I think he's learning that patience, how to be a big brother, a mentor to his trainees, and also friendship on a level as brothers.

We see that a little bit with Miles and Seth, but I love the true little brother, big brother dynamic that they really, really do have. It's different from Richard. I think Miles looks at Richard as a father figure. It's really a difference between a father figure and a big brother figure. That relationship is stronger from little brother to big brother. And I think Miles has finally found that big brother relationship that he probably was looking for his entire life.

Why Tim's Talk With Miles Is Significant In The Rookie Season 7

It's A Sign Of The Training Officer's Growth

Tim worked at the Mid-Wilshire division before the start of the series and is said to have washed out several rookies. Lucy is the first officer he trains onscreen, giving viewers a clearer idea of his teaching style. He has a very no-nonsense by-the-book approach and even kicks rookies out of the shop if they're unable to determine their location.

While the other training officers are relatively open with their recruits, Tim is less approachable. Sergeant Grey stresses the importance of giving praise, which Bradford claims is against his nature. However, Lucy helps break down his walls, which is even apparent in the friendship he later forms with Aaron. By calling Miles a good cop and being upfront about his potential in the LAPD, Tim displays significant signs of growth.
