The ensemble film follows the chaotic life of the Coopers leading up to their holiday dinner together. With Chalamet as the young version of the main character, Stephen played by versatile actor James Franco, he helps to lay down the foundation for the main character's drug addiction and estrangement from his family. It stars actor Timothée Chalamet and Elle Fanning as Gatsby Welles and Ashleigh Enright, liberal art students at a college in upstate New York. When the duo takes a trip to Manhattan, they both end up finding romance and adventure with people that are not each other. While Chalamet's performance in A Rainy Day in New York works, it is not unlike the characters he has portrayed in the past. However, the primary problem with the film is its release in the midst of sexual abuse allegations being levied at its director Allen.
13. Don’t Look Up
Netflix’s Don't Look Up is a 2001 satirical black comedy about a group of scientists trying to inform the population that the world is ending. It features countless movie stars like Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, and Jonah Hill, and was created by the acclaimed director Adam McKay. With a monstrous, world-ending comet on its way to earth, a team of scientists set out to find a solution before it is too late. While they expect mass hysteria instead they are met with apathy and denial from the populace and its leaders.
Frustrated and resigned to the state of the world, one of the scientists, Kate, played by seasoned actress Jennifer Lawrence, begins a relationship with a shoplifter and punk, Yule, played by Timothée Chalamet. The film was met with extremely mixed reviews, many criticizing the ham-fisted satire that makes light of the very serious climate crisis, but still received a Best Picture nod at the Oscars. Don't Look Up is one of many movies in which Timothée Chalamet plays an unbothered jerk, and while he does well at it, it is nothing audiences have not seen before.
12. Hot Summer Nights
Hot Summer Nights, released in 2019, is a crime drama about drug dealing in Cape Cod. While in Cape Cod for the summer, Daniel Middleton, played by actor Timothée Chalamet, quickly gets whisked into the world of dealing marijuana, and later, cocaine. Trying to navigate this new money-making stressor and a blooming romance with McKayla, the younger sister of his drug-dealing partner, Daniel is masterfully depicted by Chalamet, just 23 at the time. Despite the performances of the film's main characters, however, the majority of audiences found that the film's plot was nothing to write home about, leaving Hot Summer Nights as one of Chalamet's good, but least memorable films.
11. Hostiles
Scott Cooper's beautifully shot Hostiles is a 2017 Western/war film following a group of men sent to rescue a cancer-ridden chief named Yellow Hawk in 1893. The youngest in the rescue party, a newcomer Frenchman, Philippe Dejardin, is played by Chalamet. Featuring a star-studded cast including Christian Bale, Rosamund Pike, and Jesse Plemmons, Hostile received satisfactory reviews from critics and audiences. Chalamet is very minorly featured in the Hostiles movie as he is killed in an attack by Comanches early on in their journey. Overall, Hostiles is an excellent action film but does not allow Timothée Chalamet to shine as an actor.
10. The King
The King is a 2019 Netflix original film following the life and rise of King Henry V. The film is loosely based on the plays by WIlliam Shakespeare and shows a young prince grappling with leaving behind his drinking, partying days to be king. While the large-budget film features an all-star cast, many viewers found it slow or boring, or critiqued the historical and Shakespearean accuracy of the piece. The King is still a solid film in the repertoire of the superstar, with many praising his performance as the young King Henry V, but all in all, The King left something to be desired for its audience.
9. Bones and All
Timothée Chalamet stars in the Bones and All 2022 cast, as one of two leads in the cannibalistic romance movie, directed by Luca Guadagnino, about young couple driving across the country. Along the way, Maren discovers she is not alone as she meets several other "eaters," including Lee (Chalamet), with whom she learns from and forms a romance. Chalamet's performance as Lee is great, but simple and similar to many of the roles he has played in the past.
