Borderlands 2 fantasy-themed DLC Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep to offer an experience centered firmly around fantasy. The new co-op adventure will see players using a mixture of unique guns and magical spells/ability to try and bring down the appropriately evil Dragon Lord, with Tiny Tina controlling the world as she sees fit.
One of the ways that Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is branching out from the Borderlands series is found in the way that the game handles the familiar class system. For the first time in a Borderlands-like game story, players will be able to create their own unique character in place of choosing from a list of predetermined Vault Hunters. This opens up the class system a lot more in of customization, as Wonderlands will allow players to mix and match different abilities and features from all of the classes instead of locking them into a specific role for the entire game.
Leading up to the game's release, details about characters in Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, and how melee and spellcasting will work, two of the six classes that will be included in the final game were revealed.
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands Classes: Stabbomancer
The first new Class detailed for Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is known as the Stabbomancer class, which caters to players who like taking on enemies in more stealthy fashion. Stabbomancers are said to be "sneaky, critical-hit-focused assassins," and although they may be fragile in comparison to other classes, they have enhanced speed that allows them to dodge incoming attacks and shoot their weapons while on the move. In of abilities, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands Stabbomancers will be able to summon an "ethereal psychic ghost sword" called the Ghost Blade that can be tossed towards enemies like a frisbee and deals area-of-effect magic damage as the blade spins into foes. Players utilizing the Stabbomancer class will also have an ability called From The Shadows that enables an invisibility-based Stealth mode and increases the damage they dish out to enemies while cloaked from sight.
Tiny Tina's Wonderlands Class: Brr-Zerker
The second class revealed for Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is the Brr-Zerker class, which seems best suited for players looking to get up close and personal with enemies in melee-focused encounters. Brr-Zerkers are described as "frost-infused bruisers," with powers from another world that allow them to channel Frost magic, become Enraged in combat, and leech the life from defeated foes using a bit of magic tied to the occult. One of the abilities shown for the class is called Feral Surge, which allows the Brr-Zerker to summon a Frost-imbued axe, leap forward towards enemies and slam it into the ground, creating a cold shockwave that shatters enemies into tiny icy pieces. The other ability shown is called Dreadwind, which sees the Brr-Zerker spin rapidly in a circle with the Frost axe, freezing enemies in their place and destroying them along the way.
These were the only two classes detailed throughout all of the new information from 2K and Gearbox. It's promised that this was "the first of several news updates planned leading up to launch," so fans should get a look at even more of the classes shown in Wonderlands' gameplay trailer sometime down the road. The Stabbomancer and Brr-Zerker classes should be enough to get excited about, though, already showing that Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is leaning into the fantasy aspects of the world to hopefully create a brand-new Borderlands-style experience.
