Releasing this summer, the four young turtles raised by April’s daughter Casey Marie Jones making their first foray into combat.

2020’s limited series TMNT: The Last Ronin was the tale of the sole surviving original turtle Michelangelo on a quest to avenge his fallen brothers and free a post-apocalyptic New York City from the tyranny of the Foot Clan. The story is currently continuing in the prequel/sequel TMNT: The Last Ronin - The Lost Years, which sees Michelangelo training to avenge his family while, in the present, the next generation of turtles are raised to become warriors. Now, TMNT: The Last Ronin - Lost Day Special will see them reach adolescence, taking to the streets as vigilante heroes. Check out the exclusive preview below, from Tom Waltz, Kevin Eastman, Ben Bishop, the Escorza brothers, Freddie E. Williams II and Luis Antonio Delgado.

A special one-shot set in the Ronin-verse! After the Last Ronin defeated Oroku Hiroto, Master of the Foot Clan, New York City was free for the first time in more than a decade. But along with the newfound freedom comes a dangerous power vacuum waiting to be filled, and without a common enemy in the Foot Clan, various factions are vying to take control. Longtime resistance leader April O'Neil finds herself and her loved ones-including four small mutant turtles she and her daughter, Casey Marie Jones, are raising and training together-once again caught up in the battle for the soul of the city. When April takes the young mutant turtles with her on a supply run into the city, they become lost and must find their way back to the sewer lair or risk becoming collateral damage in the newest power struggle overtaking the streets. Old memories mix with new realities as April and her four small charges race to get back home before it's too late.

The newest team of turtles, whose names are Uno, Moja, Odyn and Yi, are shown taking on one of the many gangs littering a now lawless New York City, in much the same tradition as their predecessors Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo. Though the Foot Clan is now fallen, with the Shredder’s grandson Oruko Hiroto meeting a grisly end at the finale of the original miniseries, the world of The Last Ronin is still teaming with conflict, and there is still a need for heroes like the TMNT.

TMNT Gets a Vital New Beginning

Last Ronin New Turtles

When it released back in 2020, TMNT: The Last Ronin provided a heart-wrenching end to the franchise, with Mikey now barely recognizable as a mission-focused, delusional, traumatized warrior nearly crushed by survivor’s guilt. The sequel series, The Lost Years, goes a long way towards explaining Mikey’s tragic sense of loss, showcasing how Mikey’s customary role as the heart of the team left him ill-prepared to face the kinds of threats and villains the post-TMNT world had to offer. However, now that story has been told, it's time for a more hopeful legacy, as the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles attempt to set the world right.

The Roninverse reinvigorated fans with a dark ending from the original creators of the franchise, but now four new protagonists promise a potentially bright beginning to follow, as the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles truly begin their own heroic journey.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin - Lost Day Special goes on sale July 19 from IDW Publishing.
