TMNT Is Making a Major Change to the Turtles' Teenager Status
Jason Aaron taking over as the series writer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and he's going to implement some changes to their 'teenage status'.
To mark the occasion, Jason Aaron via his Substack dubs this era of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the "Summer of Turtles," and that era has now commenced. That era begins with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Alpha #1 by Jason Aaron, Tom Waltz, Chris Burnham, Gavin Smith, Nathan Widick, Brian Reber, Ronda Pattison, released mere days ago.
In addition, IDW's press release offers a preview (seen below, though these are not the final drafts for any of these pages as they're pending licensor approval) of Aaron's premiere TMNT issue. All things considered, TMNT fans have a lot to be excited about.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 is available to pre-order from local comic book shops now, with the deadline being June 10th to do so. The issue officially releases on July 24th.

The Summer of Turtles Begins
Jason Aaron's Substack post first speaks on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Alpha #1, featuring a 10 page prelude story starring Donatello. Aaron reveals that this was the first TMNT story that he wrote when he first came onboard. Aaron would also add this:
I told Chris [Burnham] I wanted this to feel like a comic that had dirt caked under its fingernails. And I’d say he delivered, giving us a story that makes you need a tetanus shot before reading. A story that very much sets the tone for what’s to come.
Anyone who has read "Long Way from Home: Prelude to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1" would agree just how rugged and grimy the setting of the prologue is, and readers can rest assured that the series as a whole, including its premiere issue, will follow suit.
Speaking of, critics who have read Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 thus far (including Screen Rant) have sung nothing but high praise for it thus far. Aaron's Substack includes numerous positive reviews and praise from the press. Fans share the same excitement, as Bleeding Cool confirms that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 already has more than 140,000 orders ahead of the June 10th pre-order deadline. Judging by the high praise that critics are currently singing ahead of the issue's official release date, fans have every right to get this excited and would want to get their hands on this pronto.
Why Should Fans Be Excited About TMNT's New Era
Abundance and Quality are the Key
Jason Aaron's Substack post illustrates much of why audiences should be clamoring for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles right now, in of quality. The first issue is already critically acclaimed and that should be enough to make this series a must-read and in-demand. However, it's even deeper than that. Much of that excitement should be directed toward The Summer of Turtles as a whole because, in addition to offering quality, the summer promises plenty of variety. The prologue one-shot and the debut issue suggests that there's plenty of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles content on the horizon.
