It was revealed during the is a beat 'em up that is based on the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade games.
The original popularity of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon coincided with the rise of arcades and Nintendo/Sega in the late '80s/early '90s. These games ran the gamut from iconic to shovelware. The most popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games were the fighting games and the beat 'em ups, the latter of which made for great co-op games, as groups of friends could play as each of the turtles at the same time. There were also some iconic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles beat 'em ups on consoles, like Turtles in Time on Super Nintendo and The Hyperstone Heist on Sega Genesis.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is an title that seeks to emulate the gameplay and style of the classic beat 'em ups. Publisher DotEmu (who also worked on the 4) announced that the game is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year. The announcement was made during the Nintendo Indie World Showcase (which can be seen on the official Nintendo YouTube channel), and the full trailer was ed to the GameXplain YouTube channel after the event. The game is also coming to PC this year, along with other consoles.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge uses the version of the team from the original cartoon, rather than the revivals that have been released since. The players can take on the role of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo, as they battle through waves of Foot Clan soldiers. The trailer has revealed that Bebop and Rocksteady will be bosses in the game and that Roadkill Rodneys will appear as regular foes.
The Nintendo Switch is the perfect platform for co-op games like this, as it's easy to one of the Joy-Cons off to a friend. Beat 'em ups generally don't have complex control schemes, so they function well with a single Joy-Con. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is inspired by some of the best games ever produced for its license, like the original arcade game and Turtles in Time. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle franchise is made for beat 'em ups, and there is no better modern console for it than the Nintendo Switch.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge will be released for consoles (including Nintendo Switch) and PC in 2021.
