Today's Connections puzzle is far more challenging than previous ones, as it requires an understanding of grammar that few other puzzles have demanded in the past. The structure of words is important in the puzzle, which I found to lead to many mistakes if you misinterpret specific phrases. While not every category is as tricky to figure out, there are some that might leave you stumped for answers.
Similar to the NYT Letter Boxed game, the patterns you find in how words are formed will help you a lot with today's puzzle. Since you only have four chances to make a mistake, recognizing the meanings of words and how they're used will help you avoid losing. Don't be afraid to take your time, as knowing the actions and structure of words will help you get the right answers.

Today's Connections Category Hints
May 14 #703
This puzzle was harder for me to solve, but I found that looking at the prefixes and structure of words used made things far easier. The shorter phrases in the puzzle created broader definitions, especially if you are looking too hard for ideas with similar meanings. Instead of focusing on what a word is defined as, think about how it is used to enhance another term, how it may be used as a title, or if it is organized in a way where the grammar behind it stands out.
Some of these clues may help you start thinking about which categories make up today's puzzle:
- One category is about things related to used to describe moving something toward or into something else.
- One category is about things related to Greek used at the start of different phrases.
- One category is about things related to animals who can talk in various movies.
- One category is about things related to words whose first letters don't make a sound.

DRAW |

SUCK |
WICK |
Originally, I thought that DRAW and PULL went together in reference to TCG card games, but there were no other words that ed that theme. Keeping those words together, I ed that SUCK could describe an action to PULL something or DRAW it away from its first source. After looking up alternate meanings for WICK, I saw that it was similar enough to the other three words to form this category correctly.

HYPER |
KILO |

NEO |
This part of the puzzle was strange to me at first, as I didn't think KILO had other words that related to it. However, after looking at the other , I realized that KILO is used in words like "kilogram," while other words like HYPER are found in phrases like "hyperactive." This prefix angle made it easier to see META and NEO in the same way, as both words are often used to begin larger concepts.

BABE |

DUMBO |
TED |
This was an easier part of the puzzle for me, as DUMBO could only really refer to the fictional talking animal from the movie of the same name. Looking for other talking animals, I saw TED and BOLT, who refer to a living teddy bear and a dog from two very different films. After some time, I had to that BABE was a talking pig from another movie to form the rest of this puzzle section.

GNOME |
KNEE |
MNEMONIC |
PSYCHE |
The right answers to this category came quickly to me, as I saw that GNOME and KNEE not only sound similar, but have a silent letter at the start of their words. Following this pattern, MNEMONIC is structured the same way, with the "M" at the beginning of the word being canceled out when you say it. PSYCHE also sounds like "si-kee" rather than "p-si-kee," indicating another silent first letter used alongside the remaining in this group.
