Total War: Warhammer 3 released this month, giving players access to a wide variety of Chaos Armies and other Factions.
While the ultimate goal of each Faction's campaigns is the same, the playstyle associated with each Faction and each Legendary Lord can drastically change how players attempt to reach this goal. From the realms of Kislev to the Chaos corrupted north, there is a large variety of starts for players to choose from when deciding where they want to play. Choosing between these options can prove a massive hurdle for new players.
The sheer number of choices in Total War: Warhammer 3 can be daunting for new and returning players. While the game suggests two Factions for new players, these starts can be incredibly difficult for new players. For example, the Legendary Lords of Kislev have two difficult starts, with the hardest being Kostaltyn struggle to fend off waves of Chaos forces from the beginning of his campaign. In addition, the hybrid nature of Kislev's troops can be hard for new players to utilize to their strengths. The other suggestion the game gives is the customizable Daemon Prince. Unfortunately, the Daemon Prince starts surrounded by enemies and incorporates mechanics and troops from other Factions. Combine this with how different the Dameons of Chaos technology system is from all other Factions; playing this Faction can be very jarring for new players.
The Best Start for Warmongering in Total War: Warhammer 3
Players wanting to enter the fray in Total War: Warhammer 3 have a choice they need to make: warmongering or diplomacy. There is no better start for those wishing to reap death and Chaos across the Old World than the Exiles of Khorne. Players wishing for a gore-filled Total War experience will find themselves at home controlling the Wrathful Reaper, Skarbrand. The Exiles of Khorne have a very straightforward game plan: charge the enemy and raze every settlement to the ground. The simplicity makes it very easy for a new player to grasp, and the style promoted by this Faction can be fun for any warmongering player regardless of their skill level.
The Best Start for Diplomacy in Total War: Warhammer 3
While the followers of Khorne earn the top spot for Factions focused around destruction, players wishing to follow a diplomatic approach will find no possibility to do so with Skarbrand. Instead, players wishing to further their designs in ways more than just war will have to look elsewhere in Total War: Warhammer 3's roster of Factions. The best Faction for these players is the Disciples of the Maw, led by Skrag the Slaughterer. The Disciples of the Maw are one of the Ogre Factions, whose gameplay is designed around performing contracts for other nations. While both Legendary Lords of the Ogre Kingdoms have good starts, Skrag the Slaughterer's start is void of powerful neighbors. With a focus on mercenary work, Skrag's military can easily venture into the world and interact with the other key figures on the world stage, without any risk of hostile aggression turning to his homeland.
While the Exiles of Khorne and the Disciples of the Maw are two of the best factions for new players, players should feel free to choose whichever Faction has an aesthetic or mechanic that appeals to them. Players struggling to decide where to start will easily find a home in one of these two Factions. And with either of these powerful Legendary Lords at their side, any player can find victory in their first campaign of Total War: Warhammer 3.
Total War: Warhammer 3 is available now for PC on Steam and the Epic Game Store.
