Energon Universe Trailer Teases Transformers' & G.I. Joe's Shared Adventures
The trailer is exciting for many reasons, as it gives fans their first real look at what the writers and artists have in store for them when the Transformers and G.I. Joe comics arrive later this year. First up is a better look at Daniel Warren Johnson’s Transformers, and the artwork shown off in the trailer proves the writer/artist is the perfect creator to tackle Hasbro’s bots in this all-new continuity. The new Transformers series begins with the robots in disguise arriving on Earth following Optimus Prime’s failure in a catastrophic war on Cybertron, a war that looks to be reignited in the present day. “Will the heroic Autobots save the world?” the on-screen caption reads. “Or will the Deceptions doom the planet?”
The arrival of the Transformers on Earth causes all sorts of ripple effects, as the on-screen captions go on to state that “their return is only half the battle,” before revealing our first look at Tom Reily’s cover for Duke #1 and Andrea Milana’s cover for Cobra Commander #1. Given the information provided in the early solicits for both series, it sounds like the arrival of Energon on Earth will lead to the formation of the G.I. Joe and Cobra organizations, with Cobra Commander planning to use the alien substance for his own nefarious purposes, and Conrad “Duke” Ha forming the elite G.I. Joe unit to stop him.
However things play out, the trailer makes it clear that fans won’t want to miss the new Energon Universe titles combining the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises.
