The synopsis for Netflix's Netflix released the trailer for the new series, showing a number of iconic characters.
Transformers is one of the more popular brands, though many would probably argue that popularity has waned in recent time. Most of the live-action films are massive financial successes, with a total franchise gross of over $4 billion. There were two successful video games in the previous decade, War for Cybertron (no direct relation to the show) and Fall of Cybertron. Television shows continue currently with Cyberverse, and is reportedly Beast Wars. Clearly, although not as massive as it was earlier, Transformers isn't going away anytime soon. Those curious about Netflix's show can now read about what to expect.
Netflix has released the synopsis for Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy: Siege (via What's On Netflix), the first chapter in the trilogy. Based on the description, fans of the early conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons are in for a treat. Check out the synopsis below:
TRANSFORMERS: WAR FOR CYBERTRON TRILOGY: SIEGE begins in the final hours of the devastating civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons. The war that has torn apart their home planet of Cybertron is at a tipping point. Two leaders, Optimus Prime and Megatron, both want to save their world and unify their people, but only on their own . In an attempt to end the conflict, Megatron is forced to consider using the Allspark, the source of all life and power on Cybertron, to “reformat” the Autobots, thus “unifying” Cybertron. Outnumbered, outgunned, and under SIEGE, the battle-weary Autobots orchestrate a desperate series of counterstrikes on a mission that, if everything somehow goes right, will end with an unthinkable choice: kill their planet in order to save it.
The iconic battle for Cybertron has been documented in past media, but it appears War for Cybertron Trilogy is going to delve into it in a new, grand way. Megatron considering to use the Allspark to "reformat" the Autobots is a deadly concept, probably resulting in a race to stop the Decepticons from getting their hands on it. It remains to be seen how Siege goes down and how it leads into the second chapter. Sadly, Netflix has still not confirmed a release date, though Siege should be hitting the service sometime in 2020.
So far, everything is pointing to War for Cybertron being a success for longtime and new fans. Rooster Teeth is producing the series, a company known for acclaimed programs such as Red vs. Blue and RWBY. Polygon Pictures is handling the animation. Polygon has animated a number of shows and movies, including the Godzilla anime trilogy. More relevant is that Polygon did the animation for Transformers Prime, one of the most acclaimed Transformers shows. Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy could be a big hit, but only time will tell.
