Tron: Ares has added a Dahmer and American Horror Story star to its growing cast. The movie, which is currently slated to begin production this August, will be directed by Maleficent: Mistress of Evil's Joachim Rønning from a screenplay by Jesse Wigutow. Oscar-winner Jared Leto will star in the project, which is the first feature in the franchise since 2010's Tron: Legacy.
Per Tron 3 in a currently unspecified role. In addition to his lead role in Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and frequent appearances in American Horror Story, Peters plays Peter Maximoff, also known as Quicksilver, in the X-Men franchise. Recently, he also held a major role in Mare of Easttown, which earned him an Emmy award in 2021.
Why Tron 3 Is The Perfect Post-Dahmer Role For Evan Peters
After playing notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in the hit Netflix series, Peters has been vocal about wanting to step away from playing dark characters for a time. It seems that he has found this opportunity with Tron: Ares. While his character is still unknown, the tone of the Tron franchise is a far cry from the Ryan Murphy-created Monster, so even if Peters plays a villain it will likely be a much less punishing role to portray.
Tron: Ares will also give Peters a new movie franchise after years of largely finding success on television. While he could potentially reprise the role of Quicksilver in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (after becoming one of the first X-Men cast to do so in a cameo on WandaVision), it is not currently known exactly how Disney plans to incorporate those characters into their established franchise. Tron will allow Peters to spread his wings once more, both tonally and in of the scale of the project itself.
It remains to be seen if Tron: Ares can be successful enough to earn a sequel. If it takes another decade or more for Tron 4 to get off the ground, the franchise might not have Peters return in future installments. However, even if he only has the opportunity to explore the world of Tron once, it is a necessary change of pace that showcases his ability to take on roles in a wide variety of genres and mediums.
