Sylvester Stallone's Yellowstone and its various spinoff shows, created Tulsa King, but he doesn't actually run the show anymore. Stallone's gangster series was originally led by Terence Winter, though it changed to a novel structure that didn't have a showrunner in season 2. Now, however, there's another big behind-the-scenes change in store for the show, and it actually seems to be a positive sign of things to come.

As Taylor Sheridan shows on Paramount+ that is the most exciting for his role in Tulsa King.

Tulsa King Season 3's New Showrunner Already Proved He Can Handle A Taylor Sheridan Series

Tulsa King's New Showrunner, Dave Erickson, Was The Showrunner For Mayor Of Kingstown

Prior to ing the crew of Tulsa King, Dave Erickson worked as a writer, executive producer, and showrunner for Taylor Sheridan's Mayor of Kingstown. The fact that Erickson has already worked as a showrunner for one of Sheridan's shows is a sign that he's already got more than enough experience to work as Tulsa King season 3's showrunner. Under Erickson's leadership, Mayor of Kingstown has improved its score with critics and audiences alike every season, and Mayor of Kingstown season 4 was recently confirmed, indicating it's more than capable of drawing in viewers. In his hands, Tulsa King may continue to improve.

Tulsa King Has Already Survived Major BTS Changes

From Harrassment Allegations To Creative Differences, Tulsa King Has Been Through It All

While a new showrunner is a fairly big shake-up, it's hardly the first time Tulsa King has had as much drama behind the camera as in front of it. Tulsa King season 2 has major BTS problems, as the former showrunner, Terence Winter, left the show due to creative differences with Taylor Sheridan only to come back as a writer in the second season. Additionally, both the crew of Tulsa King and Sylvester Stallone were accused of creating a toxic work environment and verbally berating background actors on their physical appearance and disabilities - though those claims have not been proven true as of writing.

In spite of some major creative challenges and some controversial allegations, Tulsa King seemingly never even broke stride. Tulsa King season 2 broke streaming records for Paramount+, and Tulsa King also secured tremendous review scores on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, with Tulsa King season 3 well underway, it doesn't seem that the show is capable of being held back by behind-the-scenes changes, and especially not ones that bring in talented creators with proven track records. The future of Tulsa King looks even brighter now than it did just a few months ago.

Mayor of Kingstown is a drama-thriller series starring Jeremy Renner as Mike McLusky, who takes over for his brother as the head of the family. The McLusky family are power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption, and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither.
