Mythical creatures have been a key figure in storytelling since the beginning of time and their popularity has never wavered. With the incredible special effects in movies today, these fictional movie characters have fans fantasizing about living among the creatures. They inspire real-life pets' names and amazing works of art through a plethora of mediums.
From Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Game of Thrones, majestic animals have brightened the epic stories with their fierce loyalty and strong contributions to the overall tales. Not are these animals fan favorites for their appearance, but also for their humor and innocence. Fantasy fans all over the world would jump at the chance to make any of these fictional movie animals real and bring them into their own homes, especially the ones with an affinity for treasure.
Hippogriffs - Harry Potter
Making his first appearance in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Buckbeak the hippogriff instantly stole the hearts of the audience with his no-nonsense attitude and Hagrid's adoration to back it up. Fans weren't disappointed when the creature dutifully defended himself against Draco Malfoy either, showing his good instincts and being one of the smartest animal characters in a movie.
Although the hippogriff is most famous from the Harry Potter series, its origins go back to the 16th century and it has the front half of an eagle and the back half of a horse. Along with its ability to fly, the hippogriff blows other forms of transportation out of the water. Fans of the HP book series will also that Buckbeak plays a much more crucial role than what is depicted in the movies.
Niffler - Fantastic Beasts
The niffler is an adorable little creature that almost looks like a platypus and quite literally goes crazy for anything shiny, making him one of the most mischievous magical creatures from the Wizarding World. Fans will recognize this cute animal from the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series as the troublemaker they'd love to carry around in their pockets.
Not only is the niffler a desirable pet for its immense cuteness, but its affinity for shiny things will come in handy when needing a surprise treasure (but good luck getting it from him). It's been compared to a honey badger, as well, and seeing Newt Scamander's interactions with the niffler only makes more people wish it were real.
Wookiees - Star Wars
Anyone who's heard of Star Wars (everyone) knows what a Wookiee is with their over seven-foot-tall stature and infamous language that's pretty impossible to put into words. While these giant furballs may not fit well in most homes, that wouldn't stop decades-long super fans from quickly taking in their own Chewbacca.
Wookiees have exhibited their value throughout the Star Wars franchise with their unwavering loyalty to the Republic. Plus, who wouldn't want to play, and most likely lose, a game of Dejarik against Chewbacca?
Porgs - Star Wars
Porgs just made their debut in a galaxy far, far away in the most recent trilogy. They're little beakless birds who live on the island where Luke Skywalker has isolated himself and had fans dreaming of owning their own. Their big, puppy dog eyes on their tiny, round bodies are irresistible and the facial expressions are so endearing.
Even Chewbacca couldn't resist their cuteness when he reluctantly decided not to eat one of the animals because of their pleading look, even though he'd already cooked one. These sea-dwelling creatures would be an interesting addition to a backyard pool and a waterslide would be a must.
Ewoks - Star Wars
Hailing from the planet of Endor, Ewoks are bipedal creatures that are basically intelligent teddy bears. They played an integral part in the Republic's victory in the Battle Endor, which fans will know from Star Wars Episode VI–Return of the Jedi.
Pretty much anyone can relate to the desire to have a teddy bear that actually talks, much less will defend them should stormtroopers attack. They may even think their owner is a god, like they did with C3PO. Fictional animals, or any animal for that matter, that can be trusted to be independent win extra favor, as well.
Toothless - How To Train Your Dragon
Toothless is the lovable black dragon, a Night Fury to be specific, from the internationally popular series, cutest TV or movie characters based on terrifying creatures to grace the screens.
Aside from the "cool" factor of any dragon being real (except maybe, Smaug), Toothless is the last of his kind and incredibly deserving of love. Fans would gladly fireproof their houses for a chance to bring this beautiful and majestic creature home.
Scooby-Doo - Scooby-Doo
The infamous Scooby-Doo has stolen the hearts of viewers since his debut way back in 1969. Accompanied in the Mystery Machine with Shaggy, Velma, Fred, and Daphne, Scooby-Doo plays a central role in the gang solving mysteries and unmasking of monsters. He's able to communicate and his humorous accidents usually help solve the crimes.
Luckily, feeding a real-life Scooby-Doo wouldn't be a problem since he'll eat just about anything put in front of him. Fortunately for superfans, they can get an animal slightly close to Scooby-Doo in the form of a Great Dane. However, they're probably less entertaining and their ability to crime-solve is likely drastically lower.
Gremlins - Gremlins
Perhaps only the darker sect of fans would want Gremlins to be real, but no one can argue that their popularity has remained unchallenged since their 1984 movie debut. Their normal appearance is adorable and they are fuzzy creatures that kind of look like the real-life Furby toy that is likely still making noise in landfills across the globe.
Even though Gremlins are notorious for having so many rules to keep them in line, fans still wish they were real. As long as the little fuzzballs are kept dry and don't eat after midnight, all will be well. However, that's likely to be wishful thinking with all the real-life crimes the Gremlins committed in the first film.
Stitch - Lilo & Stitch
Twenty years ago, Disney's Lilo & Stitch became an immediate hit, largely because of the undeniably adorable title character of Stitch. He instantly bonded with Lilo and becomes the companion she needed in a lonely world.
Perhaps, there is hope for the millions of fans who wish Stitch could be a real-life animal, considering he's a genetically-engineered koala-like creature. With today's bioengineering and gene-editing technology, it's not a completely farfetched idea to have animals such as Stitch on the earth.
Ghost - Game Of Thrones
Ghost was a huge staple in the Game of Thrones series and inspired dog owners all over the world to name their pets Ghost and obtain dogs as close to a dire wolf as possible. Many people wish Ghost was real because of his fierce loyalty and intelligence, along with his incredibly majestic appearance.
Fans may have hope yet for dire wolves to exist among them, as genetic engineering science is still in its infancy and the possibilities are infinite given the fact that they are a real-life extinct species. Perhaps, in the future, geneticists can pull a Jurassic Park and harvest ancient DNA from the extinct dire wolves so that the Jon Starks of the world can have the ultimate companion.
