With Rick and Morty set to release an official cookbook later this year, it shows how cooking inspiration can come from some of the greatest and strangest television shows. Cookbooks with unique styles of food from unique style of shows.
All cookbooks based on shows have taken inspiration from their source material by either having a food named after characters or taking the food seen on those shows and bringing it to life. These are books made official by the show and can be found in stores.
Friends: The Official Cookbook
The 90s sitcom had this group of friends create laughter and chaos in and out of the kitchen. Essentially serves as an archive of food that can be seen throughout the show with over 100 episodes.
It contains classic mouth-watering dishes such as Joey's meatball sub to Ross's moist maker sandwich. This doesn't prevent the book from also including the more bizarre dishes on the show, such as Rachel's meat trifle (but with a few changes to make it edible). When the rain starts to pour, the Friends cookbook has the comfort food that is needed. The Official Friends Cookbook can be bought on Amazon along with other Friends merchandise.
The Golden Girls Cookbook
The Golden Girls is a timeless sitcom that has Blanche, Dorothy, Rose, and Sophia living their best life. The audience fell in love with the witty humor and unique characteristics and antics that brought these four together.
The cookbook takes inspiration from Blanche's southern roots to Rose's home of Olaf in northern Minnesota. Each recipe in the book represents the culture the characters have been based on. Rose forced her friends to try her Swedish meatballs and now everyone can channel their inner Rose. Buy it now on Amazon along with the sequel book that will be released later in the year in dedication to the girl's love for cheesecake and drinks.
Avatar The Last Airbender: The Official Cookbook
This shouldn't come as a surprise that some of the Avatar: The Last Airbender can be cooked at home. Destined to save the world from the fire nation, Aang is tasked with learning all four elements. He travels the world and discovers new food and tea recipes on the journey to help him balance out his chakra.
The book has a variety for everyone as each nation has its own style and cuisine. Aang's traditional air temple dishes are vegan cuisine as the character is in the show. Of course, the water tribe would have their fish and the fire nation would have their heat and spices as the Earth Kingdom would serve different types of food in its large kingdom. Avatar: The Last Airbender cookbook can be found online or at a local Barnes and Noble.
The Scooby-Doo! Cookbook
The Scooby-Doo franchise does not hide that Scooby and Shaggy are lovers of food. The best Scooby-Doo TV shows all have Shaggy and Scooby sneaking away from the mystery to have a bite to eat.
A way to encourage kids to cook with their parents, it has recipes inspired by the show. Ghosts influenced foods, Swamp Brownie Cocoa, and a huge sandwich that Shaggy and Scooby can often be seen eating is a treat for all. The only mystery is if the $10 price that can be found on Amazon includes Scooby snacks.
Adventure Time: The Official Cookbook
Jake the Dog and Finn the Human are best bros that explore the land of Ooo and save princesses. These princesses come from places made for a cookbook such as the Candy Kingdom and the Breakfast Kingdom.
Although it doesn't have the recipes to create the edible characters within the show, it does bacon pancakes and other food made by Jake the dog. Much of the food found is sweet and savory and meant to have fun in the kitchen. Transport to the Land of OOO with Finn and Jake by buying this book at the closest Walmart or online.
Supernatural: The Official Cookbook
Dean Winchester is a genius and is proven so through his taste in food. Whenever he and Sam get to take a break from killing monsters, they are seen eating together, with Dean's love of pie being a running joke on the show.
Recipes made by characters in the show such as Jody's Chicken Shaped Roast Chicken and restaurants like Garth's Roadhouse potatoes can be found in the book. It should be obvious that it does include Dean's love for pies and burgers. Hunt this cookbook down online or at a nearby Target.
WWE: The Official Cookbook
The wrestling franchise puts on weekly shows with Raw and Smackdown has stepped out of the square circle and into the kitchen. World Wrestling Entertainment has released a cookbook during its time as WWF with J.R. as the author with The Rock smelling what he was cooking.
A more up-to-date cookbook has been made with recipes named after current wrestlers and legends such as salsa banks and Nacho Man Randy Savage being a play on Sasha Banks and Macho Man. Either cookbook can be used to have a gathering with friends and watch matches that will convert them into fans. Buy this book on Amazon and then compete with friends in a cookoff or a wrestling match.
Walking Dead: The Official Cookbook And Survival Guide
It would understandably be skeptical to try this as a show full of flesh-eating zombies doesn't seem like the best inspiration for a cookbook. The AMC's hit series is about survival during a zombie apocalypse with this book serving as a survival guide in case the day was to come.
Luckily the food is from the perspective of Rick and his gang and not food for zombies. Food recipes made by Carol, Negan, and other characters can be made without the fear of walkers ruining dinner. Search for it at Target and prepare for the end.
Cookbook: Food Wars
Food Wars! Shokugeki No Soma is an anime where students compete against each other in a cooking contest. Soma and other chefs in the show create food so amazing that it causes clothes to pop off.
Despite being a show that can only be loved by hardcore anime fans, the food within the show can be made for all to enjoy. Much like the show the book takes food used throughout multiple cultures and breaks down the instruction needed to recreate the dishes. The book contains more than Japanese recipes as western, and Italian are included with a different range of difficulty for each dish making the cook feel like Soma with something for everyone. A book with food all over the world can be bought on Amazon.
The Bob's Burgers Burger Book
Bob's Burgers is a family restaurant owned by the dysfunctional Belcher Family. The show, much like the burgers that are served, prides itself on taking inspiration from movies, songs, and other pop-culture references. This is shown throughout the running gag of the burger of the day.
The Bob's Burgers cookbook has over 70 joke burgers with real recipes for them. It stays true to the show by calling back to each episode that the burger shown has appeared in. "The cauliflower is cumin from inside the house burger," is one of many examples as it takes from a classic movie line. With more seasons added since its release and the Bob's Burger Movie heading to theaters May 27, fans are hoping for more burger books from this show in the future. Buy now on Amazon.
