It is certainly not uncommon for TV shows to be canceled after just a handful of seasons. Of course, this can happen for any number of reasons. Some shows are driven off the air by poor ratings. Others simply reach a satisfying conclusion, leaving no need for the program to continue any further. Even more shows fall victim to issues unrelated to the actual content, such as financial restrictions, problems with the cast, or even the reality that the network may just want to make room for new programming.

On the other hand, some TV shows feel as though they will last until the end of time. While this is much rarer, these series possess a level of timelessness that makes them bound to keep churning out new episodes year after year. Explanations for this immunity from cancelation can range all the way from the complexity of its stories and characters to the historical impact of the show itself. For whatever the reason may be, audiences can rest assured knowing that these TV shows will be around for years to come.

Grey's Anatomy may have been a groundbreaking show when it started, but that doesn't mean that all of its episodes aged all that well.

The primary factor that keeps Grey's Anatomy going is the way the show capitalizes on the hospital setting, which has inspired various other programs to do so as well. Though the series does explore the personal lives of the various characters, the hospital consistently remains at the center of the program, acting as the true tie between everyone who appears in the show. This allows the series to continue to thrive even when characters come and go. As long as the hospital is still standing, Grey's Anatomy can continue telling the stories of those inside it.

Having already achieved the status of being the longest-running science fiction series of all time, Doctor Who shows no signs of disappearing any time soon. The British series, which first went on the air in 1963, features a character known as the Doctor, who travels across time and space, working tirelessly to provide help wherever it is needed and to stop any evils that may arise along the way. Having already sparked various adaptations across a wide range of media, it feels more than likely that Doctor Who will continue to appear in some capacity for many years.

Part of what has allowed Doctor Who to withstand the test of time is the inherent flexibility that its protagonist allows. The Doctor is part of a rare species of beings who, upon dying, can essentially be reborn as a new being, one with a different appearance/personality, but with all the memories of the previous iterations. Because of this, when it comes time that the actor playing the Doctor must leave the show, the writers can simply introduce a new actor into the role, sparking a new series of adventures in the process.

Perhaps the most recognizable children's program of all time, Sesame Street has been entertaining and educating young audiences since the 1960s. The long-running series features Jim Henson's Muppet characters working alongside human performers to teach viewers important lessons about all parts of life. The series has been praised in recent years for being willing to discuss serious topics not typically discussed in children's programming, going above and beyond to spread messages of kindness and love to kids around the world.

With colorful characters like Elmo and Cookie Monster being among the most easily identifiable TV characters ever, it feels incredibly unlikely that Sesame Street will be taken off the air anytime soon. Even with a massive influx of content geared specifically toward children, the classic program has remained a standout, continuing to teach new lessons and even welcoming in new celebrity guests with every episode.
