Jake kept comedy breathing and alive even when there were no funny dialogues or when Charlie was not on screen. Here we are going to share with you ten things about Jake which do not make much sense.
Character Arc
Jake started off as a cute kid everyone loved and wanted to spend time with. Charlie loved him, Evelyn was fond of him and even Rose was very close with the child. Charlie often used to call him the only good thing Alan received from his marriage. Out of the blue, by the middle of the series, he morphed into a freeloader and a fart machine.
Change In Personality
Jake was a witty, smart kid with a subtle sense of humor which was the main reason why Charlie took a liking for him. But, right from the second season, he suddenly started changing into a kid whom everyone thought slow and good for nothing.
Yes, kids grow out of their young personalities with age, but, it's very rare to see an intelligent kid become dumb growing up!
Career
Jake was dumb and slow and he sucked at Math big time. So, when he bumped across an opportunity with the army where he was promised an easy, video game-like life, he grabbed it with both hands. Though it was tough as he confessed several times to Alan, he was still thriving and kind of enjoying his life. So, why did he move to Japan?
Stoner
Jake really stopped making sense when he became a numskull and started smoking marijuana frequently. This went so over the top that not only fans ranted about it, but, the child actor Angus T Jones talked about it too.
The character became an academically challenged dumb stoner who apparently has no qualms sleeping with any woman.
Elridge's Mom
When Eldridge and Jake steal a beer out of Charlie’s cabinet and sneak out to get drunk, Alan gets really pissed at Jake. That is until he meets Elridge's mom and starts dating her. When Jake gets to know about this, he gets really mad at Alan for dating his friend ‘s mother. Really Jake? You didn't think about this when you started dating the daughter of the woman you were dating? That too simultaneously!
Physically & Verbally Abusive Charlie!
In an episode, a woman Jenny hosts a dinner for Charlie and Jake. At the end of the dinner, Charlie asks Jake to excuse himself so he can spend time with the lady, but, Jake thinks he has an equal chance of sleeping with her.
To avoid being sent home, he accuses Charlie to be physically and verbally abusive in front of Jenny. Honestly, this was totally unwarranted.
That Is Simply Not Possible.
In the 9th season, episode 24, Alan asked Walden to give a job or internship to Jake to which Walden refuses. But, Walden's business partner hires Jake and Elridge for a night shift regardless. Both the teenagers wreak havoc on the company in just one night. They so much porn that a virus infects the servers and shuts the website down. How can two dumb people manually so much porn that the whole server crashes down? That's simply not plausible!
That Double Date
Jake was heavily influenced by Charlie and at times, expressed sorrow over why Uncle Charlie wasn’t his dad instead of Alan. So, it wasn’t surprising to see him two-timing or dating two or more girls pretty much at the same time. But, when he started dating a woman in her mid-thirties, that didn't come out as Jake-ey or Charlie-ish either.
No Bonding With Alan
Alan was very close with Jake throughout the series. Though Alan completely grew out of his decent man image from the first season and became a full-blown leech by the end, he still loved Jake nonetheless. Even when he struggled with money and was mostly broke all the time, he still wrote cheques for Jake’s school and other activities. And yet, Jake detested his father. Why?
He Didn’t Love Charlie Either!
The biggest issue with Two and a Half Men is all the characters are kind of stagnant throughout the show. There is no character development at all. Jake Harper didn't escape this flaw either.
Let’s imagine for a second that Jake didn’t have any sort of affection towards his uncle Charlie at the beginning of the show, which is natural. But throughout the show, Uncle Charlie doted over Jake and used to spoil him with treats, toys, regular outings, junk food and restaurant visits. Jake should have at least felt some sadness when Charlie died, but, he kept behaving lame during his funeral service too in a cheap attempt to garner laughs.
