One of Wolverine's most underrated villains is getting the ultimate redesign. Some of Marvel's strongest supervillains either belong in Wolverine's rogue's gallery or have crossed his virtually immortal path. Out of all the challenges that the X-Man has faced overtime, one of his biggest happens to be among his most underrated antagonists.

Marvel has announced several new comics to arrive in the coming months in the publishing company's Ultimate line, and Wolverine's most underrated adversary, Silver Samurai, is scheduled to appear in Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #3 by Deniz Camp, Cody Ziglar, and Jonas Schare. The issue's cover art by Sara Pichelli can be found below ahead of its August 13 release date.

For many, Silver Samurai is best ed as The Wolverine's movie villain, but his significance to Marvel lore means so much more, and his latest redesign navigates the character's latest evolution into the modern age.

Silver Samurai's Character Design Gets Reinvented for the Ultimate Universe

Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #3 by Deniz Camp, Cody Ziglar, and Jonas Schare

Although Silver Samurai has deep ties to Wolverine, he originally made his Marvel debut in Daredevil #111, originally pitting him against the Man Without Fear. In this first appearance, he looks vastly different from his usual outfit. In his debut, he sports something closer to traditional samurai gi or garb that exposes more of his skin. Metal isn't as ever-present throughout his outfit as his modern Earth-616 appearance looks. It would take years of subtle changes to his look before he'd reach the costume that he's best associated with today.

The classic X-Men villain has now reached a new evolution to his costume as he is set to take on Spider-Man. This time, while his classic attire exposes his mouth as the only visible part of his body, this new Silver Samurai is covered from head to toe, with his face obscured completely. In its place is an expressionless mask. His traditional samurai headgear is replaced by a headtop covering the entirety of his head. This Silver Samurai also sports brown shoulder pads.

The Ultimate Marvel Universe's Silver Samurai May Have No Connection to Wolverine

This new iteration debuts the Silver Samurai of the new Ultimate Universe, Earth-6160, not to be confused with the Ultimate Universe of old, Earth-1610. While multiple characters have donned the Silver Samurai identity for Marvel's main continuity, the one of Earth-6160 remains a mystery, beyond the fact that he's a member of The Maker's Council. For all readers know so far, this version of Silver Samurai may not have any connection to the Ultimate Wolverine, but time will tell when Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #3 arrives in August.
