The level of violence in ending of season 2, The Umbrella Academy will return a vengeance in what is sure to be its most violent season yet.
Netflix has confirmed thatchange in The Umbrella Academy's age rating for the series, bumping it up to a TV-MA rating prior to the release of The Umbrella Academy season 3.
Although several factors could facilitate a TV-MA rating, it seems safe to assume that violence had a role to play in the change. The show has certainly not been short of gruesome content thus far, from Luther’s brutal battles to Ben’s grotesque and destructive outbursts. However, with two teams of super-powered Hargreeves set to face off, the caliber of violence is sure to escalate. Netflix has also confirmed that season 3 will follow the Hotel Oblivion storyline from the comics, guaranteeing that the story will be packed with super-powered battles on a level that the show has not yet seen.
The Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion is the third installment in Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s comic series upon which the show is based and features a pantheon of the franchise’s most twisted characters. The Hotel Oblivion was created by Reginald Hargreeves to house and rehabilitate all Umbrella Academy villains deemed too dangerous for terrestrial prisons, trapping them in a dismal existence in a facility between dimensions. The Umbrella Academy and The Sparrows will be forced to set aside their differences (after what is sure to be an intense battle in its own right) to take on the most gruesome opponents either team has ever faced.
The inclusion of the Hotel Oblivion storyline is an exciting development for the series as it offers a deeper understanding of the Academy’s history and the world that surrounds it. The revisiting of past battles may give some insight into the mysterious origins of Reginald Hargreeves while further exploring the limits of what is possible within their universe. With a bevy of powerful and vindictive adversaries set to be unleashed, The Umbrella Academy season 3 promises to be the most intense and exciting installment in the story so far.
