A throughout 2025 with new content and characters. Other video games that have pushed Warhammer forward include strategy-based Warhammer Fantasy: Total War III and Warhammer 40K: Darktide, which features 4-player co-op action.
A new report by MP1st claims that another Warhammer 40K game was in development for several years, but was cancelled in 2024. While never officially announced, ex-employees of the indie game studio Thought Pennies state on their resumes that they were working on a "multiplatform, social role-playing game" set in the Warhammer 40K universe. Another description of the game described the game as being an "Co-Op PvE Action RPG with a cast of unique heroes and playstyles" that was canceled when funding was lost. Thought Pennies went through several rounds of layoffs, presumably tied to the game's cancelation.
What Warhammer 40K Video Games Are Coming Out?
Releases Include A Mechanicus Sequel And A New MMO
With the success of Space Marine 2, Games Workshop has noted that they're already looking for other publishers to partner with on titles. In the meantime, there are two Warhammer games in active development. The first is a sequel to the 2018 Mechanicus video game that features a turn-based XCOM-like strategy, while an MMO project is in the works by Jacklyptic Games. Few details about either of these games have been announced, so it could be a few years before either is in the hands of fans.

Warhammer 40K: Death Korps of Krieg Army Box Review - Fan-Favorite Regiment Gets Major Additions
Warhammer 40,000's newest Army Box adds new Death Korps of Krieg units, which are a great addition to an existing Astra Militarium army.
The success of Space Marine 2 led to an unexpected windfall for Games Workshop, with the company reporting £26.1 million in licensing income, largely thanks to the game's performance. Games Workshop CEO Kevin Rountree noted in the company's most recent earnings report that the strong performance of Space Marine 2 wasn't guaranteed, but that the company was looking for future room for growth. "We recognize that successes like these for Warhammer are not a given in the world of video games," Rountree said. "Clearly we are looking for the next one. We remain cautious when forecasting royalty income."
Our Take: Warhammer Needs To Continue Building Its Video Game Portfolio
Games Workshop has never been exactly stingy with video game licenses, so it's surprising that this one didn't come to . Either Games Workshop wasn't convinced that the game would properly capture the ethos of Warhammer 40K or the company had changed its approach to how they partner with studios to make video games. One thing's for certain - with an Warhammer 40K cinematic universe coming soon courtesy of Henry Cavill and Amazon Studios, Games Workshop will need to keep making sure that new fans have fresh ways to jump into their worlds through video games and other mediums.
