New images from the Tom Holland as Nathan Drake provide new teases for the film's adventure. Naughty Dog's wildly popular video game franchise is finally nearing its cinematic debut. Sony spent years developing a live-action Uncharted movie, but it wasn't until Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland ed that it became a bigger priority. His attachment didn't immediately solve the revolving door of directors for the project, but Ruben Fleischer eventually became the final director.
Instead of adapting one of the Uncharted games beat for beat, the Holland-led movie will be an original story that stars a younger Nathan Drake than the games regularly feature. Fans are still waiting for a trailer to arrive and show what Uncharted truly is like, but Sony has provided a few looks already. Holland shared an image of him on set and certainly looked the part of a young Drake. Meanwhile, other official images have teased potential plot points for the movie, and more have just arrived.
Sony released four new images from Uncharted to kick off 2021 since this is the year the movie will finally be released. The photos put a focus on a small golden cross that is shown to be a secret key, presumably used by Drake along the journey. There's also an image of an unknown location that holds a giant crate and an ancient statue of someone on horseback. Finally, there is a map of the world from long ago.
While a golden cross is not a MacGuffin in any of the Uncharted games, a Jeweled Golden Cross was a collectible in the first game. Perhaps this cross is merely a reference to the games in that regard. However, the cross symbol returns in these images with the statue. The shield on the statue has a cross marking on the front, and even though it isn't a direct match to the cross design shown elsewhere, the two items could be connected in Nathan Drake's adventure. There is even some speculation that the statue is of Francis Drake, whose trail Nathan followed in the first Uncharted to find El Dorado.
Now that more images from Uncharted have arrived, it might not be too long before Sony releases some footage. The movie is currently slated to come out in theaters in July 2021. As long as the release date doesn't change again due to COVID-19, Uncharted is only seven months away from being released. Most major blockbusters get their first trailer roughly six months before the release date, so the Uncharted trailer could come in a matter of weeks.
