The Pepsi Max “Uncle Drew” campaign proved to be a massive success and went on to rank as the second most-watched advert on YouTube during the year of its release.

The original “Uncle Drew” advert was such a hit that Pepsi went on to produce three more promotional shorts featuring both Kyrie Irving’s character and a whole host of fellow basketball players – including Kevin Lowe, Maya Moore, and Baron Davis – who were also made up to look like senior citizens to hilariously dupe a load of people who assumed they were too old to slam dunk. Kyrie Irving’s septuagenarian basketball legend proved so popular that he later spawned a feature-length Uncle Drew film released in 2018 by Lionsgate and produced in partnership with Pepsi Productions. Helmed by Black-ish director Charles Stone III, the sports comedy follows Uncle Drew as he comes out of retirement to compete in Harlem’s Rucker Classic streetball tournament and boasts a cast that includes Shaquille O’Neal, Tiffany Haddish, and Nick Kroll.

Unfortunately, it took a little while before the Uncle Drew movie was released on streaming.
