The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. However, the channel is still pumping out sensations, including a new show in the works that's connected to Marvel: Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. The animated TV show is set to release in 2023 and focuses on a young girl and her "devil dinosaur" as they fight crime.
While Disney viewers wait for the new release, there are new and old Disney Channel shows on Disney+ that are underrated and painfully ignored. From live-action to animation, Disney+ has a lot more shows than viewers realize.
Lilo & Stitch: The Series (2003)
Lilo & Stitch: The Series isn't the best Disney Channel TV show but it's one of the more underrated shows. Following the 2002 movie and its direct-to-video sequel, Stitch! The Movie, Disney Channel released the series that followed the sequel's ending.
For two seasons, the show followed Lilo and Stitch's adventure as they collected Jumba's failed experiments and relocated them to where they'd be happiest. The show was a success, which also ran on ABC Kids, but it ultimately isn't given enough praise for its storylines, comedy, and feel-good moments.
The Emperor's New School (2006-2008)
Six years after The Emperor's New Groove came out, the Disney Channel wanted to see how a TV series would do with Kuzco as the main character. Viewers saw Kuzco in school learning about how to become the next ruler of the Kuzconian Empire.
Kuzco always assumed he was going to be handed the throne but when he was told he had to go back to school to see if he qualified, hilarious moments ensued. Fans of the movie would love the vibe of the series but some reviews felt that the series didn't offer any educational element for younger viewers. Nevertheless, if fans loved the movie, The Emperor's New School is an underrated series.
Gargoyles (1994-1997)
Gargoyles had a fun and original concept for an animated series. Hailing from ancient Scotland, a group of Gargoyles found themselves a part of a new building in New York City. During the day, these Gargoyles were nothing but stone but once the sun went down, they came alive.
The dramatic series had the gargoyles fighting crime and protecting New York's streets, which brought a sense of excitement and fear. Unlike a majority of Disney Channel's shows, Gargoyles had a more serious tone filled with lessons and adventure. It's one of the channel's best-animated shows. Although the series came out in the '90s, it's an underrated show that every '90s baby and kids today could watch and love.
TaleSpin (1990-1991)
TaleSpin only lasted for one season but its originality made it an underrated Disney Channel show. The series followed an adapted version of different characters from Disney's The Jungle Book, including Baloo and Shere Khan. However, other characters popped in and out of TailSpin, including Aladdin, Timon and Pumbaa, Chip and Dale, and more!
While there were some continuity errors in that didn't make sense in regards to the characters' original Disney movies, the idea worked so well because fans loved seeing characters from other movies or shows showing up on one screen.
Dog With A Blog (2012-2015)
In 2012, Disney capitalized on the rise of blogs and released Dog With a Blog. The show centered on a newly blended family who had to adjust to the strange reality of their dog Stan being able to speak. The tricky part about Stan was that only the kids knew he could talk, which only brought the new family closer.
Because Stan could speak, he also wrote a daily blog where he talked about his family. The show was light-hearted and silly and ran for three seasons, as the kids hid this big secret from their parents.
Kim Possible (2002-2007)
When talking about reboots or live-action movies, Kim Possible should be thrown into the mix because of the unbelievable storytelling in each episode. Kim Possible followed a high school student as she balanced life as a typical teenager and crime-fighter. Fighting crimes and going on adventures with Kim were her best friend Ron and a naked mole rat named Rufus.
Although Kim Possible lasted for four seasons, it didn't get the same praise as other animated Disney Channel shows. Not only was it one of the first shows successful shows to be turned into a cross-over movie with Lilo & Stitch but the show won an Emmy for Achievement in Sound. Today, fans of the show can watch best episodes on Disney+.
Liv & Maddie (2013-2016)
Liv & Maddie had actress Dove Cameron play twin sisters, Liv and Maddie. What made it an underrated series was that it was shot in a mockumentary style, where the characters talked to the cameras and made funny faces for the audience.
In the show, Liv and Maddie were twins but were very different. Liv returned to her hometown after spending a few years in Hollywood as an actress. Unlike her sister, Maddie stayed in their hometown with their brothers and had to get used to her twin sister back in town. The show went on for four seasons and started Dove Cameron's career. While underrated, it's one of the Disney Channel's best shows.
Phil Of The Future (2004-2006)
Phil of the Future had a unique concept for a TV show. When Phil and his family got stuck in the 21st Century when their time machine broke down, the family had to make the best of their new life and revert to doing things they weren't used to doing.
Phil went on to become best friends with a girl at his new school named Keely, who later became his girlfriend. While Phil made friends in his new time era, Keely was the only one who knew about Phil's futuristic life. The series lasted for two seasons and was fun for the whole family because of the futurist elements.
Even Stevens (2000-2003)
Disney's had some incredible episodes that showed the ups and downs of brother and sister relationships with Ren and Louis. Ren and Louis were total opposites and often butted heads, but at the end of the day, they had a soft spot for each other as a family.
Even though Even Stevens was released around the same time as Lizzie McGuire, it was considered underrated in comparison. It's a series that started Shia LaBeouf's career and touched based on important topics in families with teenagers.
Timon & Pumbaa (1995-1999)
A year after The Lion King was released in theatres, the Disney Channel created a TV series following the movie's famed side characters, Timon and Pumbaa. For three seasons, the show picked up right where the movie left off.
The comedy had Timon and Pumbaa travel around the globe, as well as their native Africa, as they went on adventures as best friends. With fun songs, hilarious jokes, and entertaining storylines, Timon & Pumbaa isn't talked about enough.
