Until Dawn fans will be pleased to hear that Supermassive Games is officially teasing its next project and its setting is very exciting. The developer, which has been steadily cranking out excellent narrative horror games within The Dark Pictures Anthology series, is clearly on the verge of sharing a new look at its sci-fi horror game. While it may not be a direct secret to Until Dawn, the hints the studio has already dropped make it sound even more exciting.

Posted to X (formerly Twitter), Supermassive Games shared a single image of what appears to be a reddish-purple planet with text that simply reads, "We hear Gamescom will be out of this world." Given that the conclusion to The Devil in Me, the last entry in The Dark Picture Anthology, wrapped up with a brief look at the series' second season, it's safe to say more insight on Directive 8020 will arrive in August. Next to nothing is known about the sci-fi horror, but it does make a major change from Supermassive's regularly earth-based stories.

An Evolution Of Telltale's Style

Despite criticism that Supermassive's games are more interactive films than video games, that hasn't prevented players from flocking to Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology. The former remains one of the highest-rated PlayStation 4 games of all time and while The latest release, The Devil in Me, dropped on November 22, so it's been just under two years since Season 1 concluded.

Whether or not players enjoy Supermassive's style of game, it's undeniable that the studio has left its mark on interactive fiction. The developer's games task players with participating in a horror movie, making snap decisions to keep the cast of characters alive. It can feel somewhat restrictive but each title is flexible in its resolution, allowing for any member of the cast to live or die which can fundamentally alter the story's ending.

While it may not be a sequel to Until Dawn, more information on the studio's lesser-known games, like The Quarry, to the time.
