The many monsters you can find in Valheim can be difficult to kill, especially mighty Trolls that lurk in certain biomes. Knowing how to take down enemies in the open world can free up spaces to gather materials or find other resources. Trolls are monsters that appear early in your adventure, so you'll have to learn their weaknesses toward the beginning of the game.
Trolls are encountered near the Black Forest and are enormous creatures that dwarf even some bosses in Valheim. These beasts deal incredible amounts of damage, but their slow speed makes them easy to avoid when you first meet one. Killing a Troll to gather the rare items they drop upon their defeat comes later when you have better weapons and armor.

How to Kill Trolls in Valheim
Most Trolls in Valheim are best attacked from a distance while you use a bow to shoot the monster from afar. You can easily spot a Troll along the edges of the Black Forest with its large size and distinct blue-colored skin. Walk around the outskirts of the Forest until you see a Troll appear, then prepare for a dangerous fight against one of these hulking monsters.
Never try to take on a Troll up close, since your armor is likely not strong enough at early points in the game to defend your character from the creature's highly damaging attacks.
One of the best weapons for challenging a Troll is a Fine Wood Bow in Valheim. Try to sneak up on the monster at first before firing off a few shots while hiding behind a tree or some bushes. When a Troll is attacked, it'll immediately start charging forward, but the key strategy here is not to panic and keep shooting the monster while walking backward.
Right before the Troll gets too close, sprint away using your Stamina resource tied to your skill cap limit in Valheim. Run away until you are out of the Troll's attack range, then slowly walk backward again while letting loose more arrows. This will keep you right outside the Troll's reach, but that the monster can knock over trees to impede your movement.
Keep in mind that you need plenty of arrows to take down a Troll, so construct as many as you can before you start hunting one of these monsters.
Try to attack Trolls in wide spaces within the Black Forest as often as possible with whatever gear you have upgraded the most. Taking down a Troll will reward you with their skin, which may be used to craft Bronze Armor that you can upgrade. Finding and killing Trolls in Valheim allows you to have an Armor Level of 19, and turn older gear like Leather Armor into junk by comparison.
