According to designer Greg Coomer, February 25 release of Valve's Steam Deck portable PC, many fans are more interested in a new game instead.

Now a gaming industry juggernaut, Valve made a name for itself by creating beloved first-person shooters and puzzle games. The classic 1998 shooter Half-Life was acclaimed for its realistic gameplay and immersive narrative, and 2004's Half-Life 2 found even greater success by improving every aspect of its predecessor. Portal and Portal 2 were massively successful physics-based puzzle games, but over the years Valve gradually stopped focusing on these immersive first-person experiences. 2020's Half-Life: Alyx served as a long-awaited return to the company's first franchise, however, and the recent launch of the Steam Deck included a free demo called Aperture Desk Job which takes players back to the world of Portal.

In an interview with Axios, Valve designer Greg Coomer revealed that the company currently has multiple games in development. While the developer had no major game to release alongside the Steam Deck, apparently there are exciting projects in the works for the future. Coomer remains vague, however, offering no details about the games or when fans might learn more about them. Valve rarely releases new games, unfortunately, so it is impossible to guess when these projects may come to light.

How Valve Is Protecting Steam Deck Pre-Orders From Bots Reservation

Fans have eagerly anticipated the announcement of a new game from Valve, but years of waiting has left many gamers skeptical. While Half-Life: Alyx recently revitalized the sci-fi shooter franchise as a virtual reality experience, leaks from last year suggest that Half-Life 3 is not in development. Half-Life 2: Episode 2 left the saga on an infamous cliffhanger in 2007, making many fans bitter that a new entry took 13 years to arrive. Despite its status as a prequel Alyx also sets up the next step in the series' storyline, suggesting that Half-Life 3 may be in development after all.

While Valve's Steam Deck is regarded as an innovative piece of hardware, many of the developer's fans still await a new video game release. Half-Life: Alyx renewed many gamers' hopes of more immersive experiences from the team, and now Greg Coomer's comments confirm that several games are in active development. Few details have been given, however, leaving Valve fans waiting for any news about these exciting projects.
