It was recently announced that Legacies, was canceled. While TVD fans were happy for the universe to carry on with the spinoff, protagonist Hope Mikaelson never became as popular as the original show's characters. Caroline Forbes, in particular, is an irreplaceable part of The Vampire Diaries universe. Many fans are hoping for everyone's favorite vampire Barbie to reprise her iconic role one last time on Legacies.
During her time in The Vampire Diaries, Caroline went from being a slightly irritating best friend to a main character who was missed every time she wasn't onscreen. Her story had many ups and downs, but she always came out winning on the other side.
Caroline Moved Away From Mystic Falls For Years
As a former Miss Mystic, Caroline was devoted to her town. She didn't have aspirations of traveling the world and was happy where she lived, but life had other plans for her. At first, she was forced to leave Mystic Falls when the no-magic boundary got enforced in the town and supernaturals started dying.
Even then, she stayed on the borders. After, she was forced to leave due to the Heretic treaty and Rayna Cruz, so she lived in Dallas for three years with Alaric and the kids. She then returned to Mystic Falls to set up her school for gifted children, which is where she was seen last in TVD.
Caroline Turned Into A Vampire (And A Good One)
Throughout the show, vampirism was described as the worst curse one could receive, even though it came with the fantastic perks of supernatural healing, immortality, mind control, and super strength. Almost every human who turned suffered, but not Ms. Forbes.
Caroline's insecurity and pettiness melted away as Katherine killed her, and she reemerged a different person. It just went to show that Caroline's negative traits were just a cover, and she was a better person which got amplified in undeath. She could control her instincts, feed well, and become stronger very quickly for a newbie.
Caroline Stopped Tolerating Damon's Bullying
Emotionally and physically abusing Caroline was one of the worst things that Damon ever did, but she learned to stand up to him, mainly after she turned. She didn't easily forgive the elder Salvatore for his mistreatment, making sure that he knew that she hadn't forgotten so easily.
Moreover, with her vampire skills, Caroline learned to fight back and thus couldn't be compelled or pushed around as easily. Only right at the end, as Stefan's wife, and after Damon had atoned, did she build a friendship with the eldest Salvatore brother.
Caroline Became A Mother
The vampires on TVD were certainly unconventional, and Caroline turned out to be one who could get pregnant. It happened via magic, with the Gemini coven placing Jo's twins in her, but it made her a mother which was something teen Caroline would never have imagined.
There was no feeling of being an adoptive mother to these kids, and the one time Alaric made her feel that way, she put him in his place. Josie and Lizzie were Caroline's babies, and she raised them well.
Caroline Stopped Competing With Her Friends
Caroline's personality changed for the better when she became a supernatural being. While it is almost certain that this kind and comionate Caroline was hiding beneath layers of parental issues, she only showed up after Katherine did the unholy deed of turning her.
Caroline stopped feeling the need to compare her life with Elena's or compete to become the best within their friend group. She grew up and started ing Elena and Bonnie.
Caroline Was Married And Widowed
When high school Caroline spoke of her June wedding with Stefan Salvatore, little did she know that that exact thing would happen to her just a few years down the line. Caroline found true and lasting love with Stefan, and they pledged their affection to each other. Sadly, they barely got any time together.
Stefan had to be the one to end the circle by sacrificing himself and letting Damon live out his human life, which was something that Caroline understood and accepted. So, she became a widow almost as soon as she got married.
Caroline Lost Her Father And Mother
Just like everyone else on the show, Caroline suffered the loss of her family, but hers was perhaps the most unexpected. She had a mother and father for a long time on the show, but Bill got turned into a vampire and refused to transition, so he died somewhere in between.
Liz Forbes' death was one of the saddest in TVD because despite the supernatural forces around her, she died for a wholly human reason: cancer.
Caroline Flipped Off Her Humanity
Losing her mother didn't sit too well with Caroline, since she was the only family she had. She could not even say goodbye to Liz, so the only alternative she sought was to turn off her emotions and cruise through life without the heartbreak.
Even the humanity switch-off was different for Caroline, who managed to stay quite tame for quite a while until Ripper Stefan made his move. He unleashed a ruthlessness in her, and she actually made Liam perform surgery on Sarah Salvatore while humanity-free.
Caroline Killed People
Teenage, human Caroline may have gotten snippy at times, but murder could never be on her mind. Enter vampirism. At first, she killed a boy at the carnival for lack of knowing better. She had no instinct control that early on, but she learned it rapidly.
Then, she slayed people when her humanity was off, and she protected Elena and the ones she cared about.
Caroline Got Involved With An Original Vampire
Even though she may not have desired it, Klaus, the Original Hybrid, wanted to show Caroline the world. He fell helplessly in love with her, and while she resisted, it could only last so long. They gave in to their ions, but the relationship never technically happened (much to fans' ire).
Catching the attention of one of the oldest souls is no joke, and clearly, there was something special about Caroline. In high school, she never would have never imagined being entangled with someone as old, villainous, and powerful as Klaus.
