With all the drama the characters of The Vampire Diaries were going through, there wasn't much time in their lives for quiet lives at their homes and with their families. Elena and her friends spent a lot of time in school but also around Mystic Falls. Other heroes did even more traveling, such as Stefan or Damon. All in all, the characters' houses and apartments didn't play as big a role in The Vampire Diaries as one might expect.

Still, the fans enjoyed every glimpse into their favorite heroes' life that their homes provided. Some of the houses and apartments the show's characters resided in then were more intriguing than others.

Katherine's Flat

Katherine's Flat

Katherine's flat she temporarily used looks nice enough, no arguments about that. The reason it doesn't rank higher is that Katherine didn't spend a lot of time there and hasn't had the time to make it look her own.

As a result, with the exception of a few books and the aquarium, the place feels somewhat nondescript and lacks the cozy feelings other homes of the main characters had. Katherine was too busy plotting and manipulating people to put a lot of attention into making her flat feel more like her.

Matt's House

Matt's House

Matt's house was one of the smallest ones the main characters had. Even if people wouldn't have trouble with its size, it wasn't home full of happy memories.

Matt couldn't rely on his mom and it was mostly up to him to keep things going. The house looks well-lived in but it lacks the spacious and cozy feeling other houses on the show had. Matt might have felt this way because he finally moved out of the house and started living in the Lockwood mansion instead.

Enzo's Safehouse

Enzo's Safehouse

Enzo had a cabin in the woods outside of Mystic Falls. While it still stood, it looked comforting albeit a bit old. It also wasn't very big, like cabins usually aren't, so it probably wasn't ideal for living there all the time.

Bonnie and Enzo formed some happy memories there, for example, the cabin was the place where they first kissed. But it burned down in the end when Bonnie set the cabin on fire.

Caroline's House

Caroline's house

Just like Matt's original home, Caroline's house has seen a lot of things and not all of them were good. The house wasn't so large but it had more than enough space for Caroline and her mom Liz.

Caroline also hung out there with Elena and Bonnie from time to time. However, when her mom died, Caroline emotionally threw away most of her things which made the house feel much less homely.

Alaric's Flat

Alaric's flat

Alaric's flat played a major part in the second season when Klaus took over Alaric's body. He then trapped Katherine in the flat and compelled her to stay there. The flat was also the place where Klaus returned to his original body. As such, its atmosphere was stained by Klaus's scheming and evil plans.

However, other than that, it looks like quite a cozy place, with a lot of books and free space. Someone could mind it didn't seem to have a lot of natural light, that's why it ranks lower on this list. But it suited Alaric's purposes and he kept using it even after the events of the second season.

Tyler's Mansion

Lockwood Mansion

Just like multiple houses from the show, Tyler's house is a real house in Georgia. The Lockwood mansion saw multiple people living there throughout the show, most notably Tyler, Matt, and Stefan. Tyler didn't seem too happy with living with his family but he loved his mom and considering the sheer size of the house, it's clear they were well-off.

Stefan mentioned the mansion has at least eight bedrooms at one point which allowed the characters to spend a lot of time together there. People who love nature might also appreciate the mansion's beautiful surroundings.

Salvatore Estate

Salvatore Estate

Speaking of beautiful surroundings, the Salvatore Estate takes the prize. Stefan and Damon lived there with their father Giuseppe back in 1864. The house had enough amenities to be considered luxurious even back then.

In the few episodes it appeared in, it seemed full of light. And Katherine and Stefan spent some joyous moments in the garden. Unfortunately, the Salvatore Estate collapsed sometime before the 21st century.

Bonnie's House

Bonnie's house

The Vampire Diaries didn't show Bonnie's house all that often as she spent a lot of time at school and at Elena's house. However, the few episodes that did include it show a family house with nice colors and wooden furniture, paintings on the walls, and other things proving that people like living in the house.

It looks welcoming and warm. Plus, Bonnie must have been happy having a large room for herself.

Elena's House

Elena's House

Elena's house was one of the most seen ones on the show. It appeared right in the first episode and played a big part in multiple seasons. It was more than large enough for the family, had a lot of natural light and knickknacks showing that the house was lived-in. It also looked to be in a good state, didn't need any repairs.

Unfortunately, it got ruined when Elena switched off her emotions and burned the house down after Jeremy died. She later confessed to missing the house. Fans of the show might be interested to hear that the house is in Georgia, right next to Caroline's house.

Stefan's And Damon's House

Salvatore Boarding House

One of the fan-favorite houses of The Vampire Diaries is the Salvatore Boarding House. Damon and Stefan lived there when they were in Mystic Falls. The house's beautiful architecture makes it a delight to look at. It's surrounded by trees and greenery which contrasts well with its brown exterior.

The heroes of the show spent a lot of time in the house and it's where Damon and Stefan reunited in the afterlife. The house had a lot of history since the Salvatore brothers kept their valuable possessions in there.
