In the mystical world of the fictional universe are the original hybrids, half werewolves and half vampires.

the show for quite a while, there are plenty of unanswered questions left about these beings.

Why Can Hope's Blood Make Hybrids?

Obviously Hope's tribrid blood is super special, but a lot of the magical things that it can do are a bit baffling.

It's not entirely incomprehensible that her blood would make hybrids given that her father is the Original hybrid, however, Hope is still a living person and not a vampire, so how exactly does she have part vampire blood without actually being a dead yet?

Why Can Hope's Blood Complete The Transition?

Again, it seems like Hope's blood is some of the most extraordinary blood in the world, but the fact that her blood is necessary in order to complete the transition of the hybrids she turns is difficult to understand.

After all, the curse that requires that Klaus use doppelganger blood to make his hybrids is reserved to him alone, right? So in theory the hybrids made by Hope should be able to use any old blood like standard vampires do.

Why Did Klaus Give Up On Them So Easily?

Joseph Morgan as Klaus in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals

Klaus was seemingly utterly consumed with the idea of breaking his hybrid curse and unleashing his werewolf side from pretty much the moment he realized he was a werewolf, but it wasn't just about him alone. He dreamed of creating a hybrid army of his very own for centuries.

However, once he realized they could break their sire bonds if the chose and once it became slightly more difficult to make them, he completely gave up on the idea or finding any solutions to those problems.

Why Didn't He Make More Using Hope's Blood?

The doppelganger curse and Elena's sudden transition into a vampire definitely threw a huge wrench in Klaus' plans to create a hybrid army. However the moment Hope came into existence, making hybrids became much easier.

And Klaus didn't even necessarily have to make them for himself. He and Hayley were obsessed with protecting their daughter at any cost, so why wouldn't Klaus want to create a bunch of super powerful hybrids who are all insanely devoted to his child?

Why Can't All Hybrids Make Other Hybrids?

One quirk of the hybrid species within The Vampire Diaries universe is the odd fact that it seems that Klaus is the only person who can actually make other hybrids.

However, there's no explanation as to why exactly that is. It also defies the logic and mythology that already exists within the universe, because clearly all vampires can make other vampires, they don't require an Original to turn them, so there's no reason that shouldn't apply to hybrids as well.

Can Untriggered Werewolves Become Hybrids?

An interesting concept that the show nor Klaus himself never explored was whether or not an untriggered werewolf could become a hybrid.

Would they have an experience similar to Klaus' where his werewolf transformation happened after he made his first kill as a vampire, or would they just be stuck as a vampire forever? Or would they be some sort of hybrid-hybrid, something in between a hybrid and a vampire that the world hasn't yet seen?

Why Didn't Klaus Ever Try Turning An Untriggered Werewolf?

When it comes to pushing the boundaries of the supernatural world, Klaus loves exploring new things and seeing what happens when he tries something no one else has.

So the fact that he never once attempted to turn someone who had the werewolf gene but hadn't actually triggered the curse is actually pretty surprising, especially considering that this could have possibly been a loophole around the doppelganger blood curse.

Why Does Turning Break The Sire Bond?

Tyler Lockwood stares down Klaus Mikaelson in The Vampire Diaries

According to the in-universe explanation of breaking the hybrid sire bond to Klaus, the bond is broken by turning into a werewolf over and over again because the origin of the sire bond stems from the sired being grateful to Klaus for relieving them of the transition.

However, there is never really any in-depth exploration as to why that is, and while there's a shred of internal logic that can be followed there, it doesn't entirely make sense.

How Does Hayley Know Turning Breaks The Sire Bond?

So before leading all of the hybrids to the slaughter, Hayley plays the savior and helps all of them break their sire bond with Klaus. She's also the one who informs everyone that this is how the sire bond works.

Except, there is never any explanation of how Hayley ever figured this out, which is especially odd considering that Hayley isn't even a hybrid nor much of a werewolf expert.

Why Can't Klaus Break The Doppelganger Blood Curse?

Elena in The Vampire Diaries

When Esther suppressed Klaus' werewolf side, she knew that she needed to create some sort of loophole that would prevent him from unleashing a new and dangerous species in the world, so she created the caveat curse that hybrids can only be turned with doppelganger blood even though a doppelganger sacrifice was required to break the curse.

But what Klaus never even considered was that all curses can theoretically be broken, and if he could break his hybrid curse, why couldn't he break this one as well?
