Caroline and Klaus, also known as Klaroline, shared an epic love throughout The Vampire Diaries. The pair met in season 3 and their instant chemistry made them one of the show's most popular pairings. Many fans were hoping to see Klaroline reunite, but these hopes were dashed by Klaus' death in The Originals.
Caroline ended up with Stefan before his death in season 8, though the romantic tension between her and Klaus was never fully resolved. It would have been an intriguing alternative if Caroline had reconciled with the Original, triggering any one of these potential situations...
Klaus Survives
If Klaus and Caroline had found their way back to each other, then the Original hybrid may have survived The Originals' finale. If Klaus had lived then Elijah may have too. The Original family could have reunited with Caroline at the center.
Klaus' death was a fitting end for his character. The hybrid terrorized Elena and her friends in The Vampire Diaries and killed countless people. If he had lived, however, then maybe Caroline could have convinced him to seek redemption by helping people instead of hurting them.
Klaus In Legacies
If Klaus had lived and reunited with his former flame Caroline, then he could have occupied a larger role in Legacies. The spin-off show depicts the adventures of Klaus and Hayley's daughter, Hope. It would have been great to see the Original accompany his daughter on some of these adventures.
Caroline and Klaus could have been recurring characters, appearing sporadically to help Hope, Josie, and Lizzie. It would be a highlight for Klaroline shippers, as well as a nod to fans of The Vampire Diaries.
Caroline In The Originals
Caroline could have also featured in another spin-off show from The Vampire Diaries if she had reunited with Klaus. She briefly starred in The Originals, but it would have been great if she had stuck around long enough to fully interact with the characters in the French Quarter.
Many Klaroline fans were hoping to see the blonde vampire head to New Orleans eventually. It would have been fun to see her converse more with the Original family as Klaus' partner.
Hope Grows Up With The Twins
Hope becomes friends with the Gemini twins, Lizzie and Josie, during their stay at the Salvatore Boarding School in Legacies. If Hope's father, Klaus, and the twins' surrogate mother, Caroline, had ended up together, then the supernatural students could have grown up together as children.
Alaric may have protested against this, considering the hybrid murdered his girlfriend, Jenna, in Season 2 of TVD. But Klaus was one of the most powerful people in the world. He could have provided excellent protection for Ric and Caroline's twins.
Klaus Apologizes To The Mystic Falls Gang
Klaus was an unrepentant bad guy when he was first introduced in season 2 of The Vampire Diaries. The Original hybrid tried to kill Elena, tormented her friends and murdered her aunt, Jenna. If he and Caroline had reunited in the series finale, then an apology for his actions would be necessary.
Caroline loved her friends and would have wanted Klaus to try and make amends. It would have been difficult convincing Elena to forgive and forget, though the doppelganger did also move past Damon's abuse of Caroline in season 1 pretty quickly.
Caroline Becomes The Queen Of New Orleans
Klaus leaves Mystic Falls in season 4 of The Vampire Diaries to reclaim his kingdom in New Orleans. The Original fights against Marcel and the other supernaturals in the French Quarter for supremacy throughout The Originals.
If Caroline had reunited with Klaus then they could have potentially ruled New Orleans as the King and Queen of the French Quarter. It would have been entertaining to see a more ruthless side to Caroline's character.
Klaus And Caroline Get Married
Caroline married Stefan Salvatore in season 8's "I'll Wed You In The Golden Summertime." If her endgame romance had been with Klaus instead of the younger Salvatore brother, however, then the blonde vampire could have married their former enemy instead.
Klaus and Caroline's wedding ceremony would doubtlessly be as dramatic as her brief marriage to Stefan. However, with Rebekah and Caroline organizing it together, it would have also have been a spectacularly stylish event.
Klaus And Caroline Travel Around The World
In season 4, Klaus promises Caroline that he intends to be her last love. He offers to show her the world one day, echoing their first conversation in season 3's "Our Town."
Caroline endured a lot throughout the events of the show and deserved some happiness. Klaus could have upheld his promise to show her all of the beauty, art, and music that the world has to offer.
Return To Mystic Falls
If Klaus had ended up with Caroline, then fans could have witnessed the Original hybrid departing New Orleans and returning to Mystic Falls. Klaus originally lived in the town a thousand years ago with his family as humans. It would have been a fitting conclusion for the hybrid to return home.
Caroline fought to return to Mystic Falls in season 6, and settles in town to open the Salvatore Boarding School. The vampires could have retired in Mystic Falls together, seeking a quieter life.
New Romance For Stefan
If Caroline had ended up with Klaus instead of Stefan, then the younger Salvatore could have pursued a new epic love — or an old one. Stefan could have resumed his romance with his first love, Valerie, or somehow found his way back to Elena.
Stefan sacrificed his life to save Mystic Falls from hellfire in the series finale, "I Was Feeling Epic." However, in an alternate reality where Klaus and Caroline ended up together, then perhaps Stefan could have survived too. The cured vampire could have stayed in Mystic Falls or left town to find a new life and love.
