Venom, which was a big box office success even if critics weren’t that nice to it.
Venom’s box office numbers were enough for Sony to move forward with other Marvel related projects that are connected one way or another with the current version of Spider-Man. This year will see the arrival of third Spider-Man: Homecoming film.
Given that the mid-credits scene in Spider-Man: Far From Home featured J. Jonah Jameson (once more played by J.K. Simmons) revealing Spider-Man’s true identity. This makes way for a Spider-Man/Venom encounter that can happen organically and in ways that help both stories. Here are some ideas.
Eddie Brock Could Investigate Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Venom introduced audiences to Eddie Brock, an investigative journalist who comes across with an alien symbiote while investigating the experiments taking place at Life Foundation that involved humans and symbiotic life forms. Eddie wasn’t counting on becoming the host of the symbiote, which manifested around his body as a monstrous creature and granted him special abilities. After a lot of chaos, by the end of the film Eddie returned to journalism, which is how he met Cletus Kasady.
Spider-Man, on the other hand, left viewers with a major cliffhanger. After defeating Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) and his army of drones, everything seemed to have gone back to normal – until the mid-credits scene happened. In it, J. Jonah Jameson (now at TheDailyBugle.net) broadcasted footage of the London incident in which Mysterio framed Spider-Man for the attack and his death, and exposed his secret identity. Now, as Sony’s Marvel Universe and the MCU are aware of each other’s existence (at least when it comes to Spider-Man), it’s very possible that Eddie Brock heard the scandalous news about Spider-Man and Peter Parker, and that would make a great investigation. This could either lead to a cameo from Spider-Man or a proper meeting between the two, in a way that fits both stories and universes.
Venom Could Fight Spider-Man In Venom 2
Spider-Man: Far From Home marked the end of the Infinity Saga, and the sequel won’t arrive until 2021, so it’s unknown how Peter has being handling the big reveal, but he will surely be on the run as he’s not the only one in danger (aunt May, his friends, etc). Peter could run away to the other side of the country, where he can easily cross paths with Eddie/Venom – and how that encounter happens could lead to a much anticipated fight between the two. Another possibility is that their meeting and eventual fight might be all thanks to Carnage, who as seen in set photos is now running wild and free, and could be the one who (unbeknownst to him) brings Venom and Spider-Man together – and starts a fight.
Venom & Spider-Man Could Work Together
There’s also the possibility of Venom and Spider-Man ing forces, either instead of being enemies or after a couple of punches. Spider-Man is now a villain in the eyes of pretty much the whole world thanks to Mysterio’s video, but Eddie/Venom could eventually realize that Peter is actually a good guy, prompting them to work together for a while. However, if Carnage does have a role in the meeting between these two characters, it wouldn’t be surprising if they team up to fight him, though Sony might want to keep this alliance for the (near) future – it might be too early and fans are more eager to see them fight each other.
Spider-Man Could Just Have A Minor Cameo
Rumors about a Spider-Man cameo in Venom 2 have been floating around for a while now, and unsurprisingly, the one in Morbius.
One of the things that didn’t appeal to critics about Venom was its lack of connections to Spider-Man, though that wasn’t an issue to most viewers, who found the film to be entertaining and the character able to stand on its own – but he might eventually need the help of his biggest enemy. Both can benefit from the other, and a Spider-Man appearance in Venom 2 can come in handy not only to Eddie and the symbiote but to Spider-Man too, allowing him to continue his course at Sony’s Marvel Universe once his time in the MCU is up, and his presence can be as big or small as Sony and Marvel decide.
