Venom Horse has been featured in back-up stories in the main Venom War title during the massive Marvel event, with hilariously astute commentary in the second issue. "Venom Horse, Part 2" by Al Ewing, Carlos Nieto, Frank D’Armata, and VC’s Ariana Maher sees the symbiote steed giving a thorough and intelligent explanation of Scott McCloud’s 1993 book, Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art.

Venom Horse 2 by Ewing, Nieto, D’Armata, and Maher - Venom Horse flies into opera with Understanding Comics reference

With the horse’s thought bubbles breaking the fourth wall and revealing their academic observations on the comic book medium, a team-up with Deadpool that contrasts Wade Wilson’s crass attitude with Venom Horse’s knowledgeable insight would be absolutely perfect.

Deadpool’s Perfect Sidekick is Marvel’s Most Eloquent Equine Fourth Wall Breaker

As the king of meta Marvel remarks and a pet dad with a penchant for animal sidekicks, Deadpool would instantly take a liking to Venom Horse upon introduction. In addition to the horse’s summary of Understanding Comics, the first part of Venom Horse’s back-up one-page adventures features a thoughtful examination of Spider-Man and Venom in relation to Jean Baudrillard’s philosophical text Simulacra and Simulation. As Wade Wilson is responsible for some of Marvel’s best fourth wall breaks, it would be fascinating to see Deadpool play off of Venom Horse’s intellectual reading of nonfiction literature.

Every Marvel Character Who Knows They're in a Comic

From Deadpool to Uatu the Watcher, Marvel has no shortage of fourth-wall-breaking characters, but exactly how many of them know they're in a comic?

Though Eddie Brock is the most likely candidate to be paired with the Venom Horse in future stories, they would probably be a better fit alongside Wade Wilson’s colorful ing cast of characters. Deadpool is already no stranger to befriending animal symbiote hybrids, with his hyena-like daughter figure Princess being a clone of the Carnage symbiote. Since he’s already taken in a symbiote character as his own, it’s no question that Deadpool would welcome Venom Horse into his family or as a bucking sidekick.

While many comic book characters have hit the page after first appearing in film and television, Venom Horse could be one of the first characters to make the leap to comics after a strong first impression in just a movie trailer. After being an outlandish reveal in the first trailer for this October’s Venom: The Last Dance, the symbiote horse was quickly introduced in variant covers and Venom War back-ups. Just the concept was enough to make Venom Horse a hit with audiences, but their new role as a thoughtful narrator pondering comics is an interesting new development.

From their brilliant introduction in a movie trailer to their hilariously intellectual fourth-wall-breaking one-page adventures, this equine variant is already one of the strongest versions of Venom to officially debut and an iconic part of symbiote lore. With an exciting debut in 2024 on the big screen and in the world of comics, Venom Horse is sure to be featured in many more stories for years to come. Deadpool is the perfect superhero character to saddle up and accompany the instant fan-favorite Venom Horse on a future Marvel adventure.

HISTORY
The Venom symbiote is an alien organism that first bonded with Peter Parker (Spider-Man) during the "Secret Wars" storyline. After Parker rejected the symbiote, it found a new host in Eddie Brock, a disgraced journalist. The symbiote and Brock bonded over their mutual hatred for Spider-Man, becoming the anti-hero known as Venom. Over time, Venom has evolved from a villain to an anti-hero, often fighting alongside other heroes to protect innocents, though his methods remain brutal.

Venom is a symbiotic alien entity bonded with various human hosts, notably Eddie Brock and later Flash Thompson. It grants superhuman strength, agility, and a shape-shifting black costume. Initially a Spider-Man villain due to its origins, Venom evolved into an antihero, battling both villains and his own dark impulses. The character embodies themes of duality and redemption within the Marvel Universe.
