After the events of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, Venom got a second chance with his first solo movie in 2018, directed by Ruben Fleischer and with Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, the journalist who ends up bonding with an alien symbiote.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and thanks to the events in the MCU leading up to a third Spider-Man movie, the MCU is Venom’s best chance at fighting Spider-Man than Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters.
Thanks to the Spider-Man: Far From Home left the audience with a major cliffhanger thanks to its post-credits scene, which not only revealed that J.K. Simmons is back as J. Jonah Jameson and thus The Daily Bugle exists in the MCU, but Peter Parker’s identity was also made public.
The movie’s villain, Venom/Spider-Man fight happen – otherwise, there’s no actual reason to bring them together, as Sony’s Spider-verse hasn’t established any type of conflict between them.
Although Morbius is set to happen before Venom 2 and Spider-Man 3, and it’s confirmed to have connections to the MCU, it’s unlikely it will set-up the Venom/Spider-Man conflict, as it will be mostly focused on the journey of Michael Morbius. The Mysterio reveal, then, it’s the best way there is at this point to make the Venom and Spider-Man fight happen, and it’s all thanks to what the MCU has been doing with this new Spider-Man.
