They have two children whose ages are not given, but who are around 10 to 14 most likely, and they reference both their history and their plans for the future.

Although Ragnar asks her to stay, and suggests that they both be his wives, Lagertha refuses, and leaves. This divorce is painful to see, and in the scenes where Lagertha leaves, Ragnar is clearly heartbroken. He isn't specifically choosing Aslaug over Lagertha here, either. He is choosing sons, and the continuation of his line, something that is incredibly important to him as a Viking.

Lagertha is also warmly welcomed back by the community, much to Aslaug's chagrin.

At this point, Aslaug becomes his wife and does indeed give him many sons. Lagertha heads out and marries again elsewhere, only returning many years later. When she does, she comes back to Ragnar as "Earl Ingstag" and the two reconnect, fighting together side-by-side. Lagertha is also warmly welcomed back by the community, much to Aslaug's chagrin. Ragnar even asks her to stay with him in Kattegat, although she refuses.

While there were clear hints at the end of season 2 that the pair might get back together, season 3 firmly establishes that this is not to be. While they battle together, they also have their own arguments. Lagertha is furious at Ragnar when their son Bjorn is injured in battle, believing that Ragnar should have protected him.
