The Walking Dead season 11 to premiere, the producers had to make a few changes to the schedule.

Firstly, the second spinoff and third series overall, Fear the Walking Dead season 6 was only starting to get underway in the winter, delaying that was unavoidable.

Even though there hasn't been any Walking Dead content for months, AMC and the series' producers have made big decisions regarding the franchise's future. The biggest surprise is that The Walking Dead will end in 2022 with season 11 - and in the interim, The Walking Dead season 10 will be extended by six episodes. So the delayed season 10 finale technically isn't the finale anymore. The Walking Dead season 10 will return with new episodes in 2021, presumably sometime around February. Since AMC chose to maintain October as The Walking Dead's month, it stands to reason that February will be when the series returns.

Carol in The Walking Dead Season 10 Episode 16

During AMC's investor week, the network revealed plans to begin pre-production on The Walking Dead sometime in late August, with Fear the Walking Dead resuming filming in October. What this means is that there's a good chance The Walking Dead season 10's final six episodes could release in early 2021; season 11 would then be able to premiere in fall 2021, per the series' usual schedule. Of course, this is still a prediction right now and there's no guarantee The Walking Dead will return in February, but it's the most likely option. Until then, though, there's plenty of other Walking Dead content for fans to enjoy.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 1 and Fear the Walking Dead season 6 are both airing simultaneously, and will presumably continue to release new episodes until the end of the year. World Beyond's season is only 10 episodes, but Fear the Walking Dead has a traditional season order, so that should still return in early 2021 as well - unless AMC plans to push the season through the holidays. All in all, though, hopefully fans won't have to wait too long to get back to The Walking Dead season 10 next year.
