The Walking Dead: Last Mile is a one-of-a-kind interactive experience that has never been seen before. Skybound Entertainment and Genvid Entertainment created a massively interactive live event (MILE for short) exclusive to Facebook Gaming and Facebook Watch, where a community of fans and players come together to help tell the story of a group of survivors. Screen Rant was invited to visit the set for an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience where we saw where the magic is made, and even watched the final live show being filmed.
Throughout The Walking Dead: Last Mile’s four-month run, Yvette Nicole Brown and Felicia Day have hosted weekly live streams highlighting the big moments that propel the narrative forward, discussing the story with special guests, and revealing key decisions made by the audience in the Instant Game. In addition, Day streams herself playing the TWD: LM Instant Game alongside the rest of the community at special times. Day's streams also feature instant viewer polls, prizes, and more. Fans of The Walking Dead create their own survivors that they play in the game, but it is so much more than that. A sense of community is created as they come together to make crucial decisions when they vote on polls that are introduced during the live show. Each decision has an impact, which could be good or bad, as the players are the ones that guide the story in a certain direction.
ââââWhile the 15th live show already streamed on November 7th on Facebook Watch, and the story is technically over, this might not be the end. The team would love to come back and do this all over again, with a new The Walking Dead interactive game. All of the shows are archived on the platform so they can be watched, though the interactive component will not be available. Genvid Entertainment has something similar in the works for Silent Hill, so be sure to keep an eye out for that.
Screen Rant Visits The Walking Dead: Last Mile
Being on set for the filming of the final episode was magical. It was very clear how much every single person involved cared about the show. From the camera operators to crafty, and especially the hosts themselves, The Walking Dead: Last Mile had an impact on many lives. When we arrived, we were able to watch the rehearsal for the day's show. This gave Brown and Day an opportunity to run through their lines and watch the videos that would be played live so that they could work on any improvements they might bring to the table. Brown herself had the brilliant idea to place some The Walking Dead: Last Mile t-shirts, which she folded herself, on the table for display as she was going to be letting fans know where to purchase their own.
After rehearsal, several Instagram Reels were filmed, and it was a blast to watch Brown and Day play rapid-fire paddle boards right in front of our faces. Then it was time to go live, and it was apparent that while they love having fun together, both Brown and Day take their jobs seriously. The atmosphere was both somber and celebratory as they completed filming of the final show. Brown and Day were sure to thank each and every person who brought something to the table, no matter how small or large their role was.
Screen Rant caught up with hosts Yvette Nicole Brown and Felicia Day after they wrapped the show to talk all about the interactive game, what they loved about The Walking Dead: Last Mile, which choices the community made surprised them, and if they would survive an apocalypse.
Yvette Nicole Brown & Felicia Day on The Walking Dead: Last Mile
Screen Rant: I'm a big Walking Dead fan myself, and I know you are too. What drew you to be a part of this?
Yvette Nicole Brown: I love what Skybound has created. There's other iterations of The Walking Dead, but I love the graphic novels and the games, so to get to be a part of a stream that celebrates those things was pretty exciting. And to get to work with this one was also really wonderful.
Felicia Day: Dream come true! I really love doing it, not only because of the lore, but I was really drawn toward the innovation and the gameplay. I thought it was really fantastically interesting to get millions of people together to choose storylines, and have it really affect the story in a way that broke my heart sometimes. Truly. I'm really excited, and I think it's just the start of some really interesting gaming innovation.
I'm a big gamer myself, so I'm hoping there's a lot more of this. Especially a lot more Walking Dead. Would you guys come back?
Yvette Nicole Brown: Absolutely! I heard that there's at least a two year lead time to create the new game, so we'll be back here in 2025. With more filters!
Speaking of the choose-your-own adventure style of gameplay, was there any poll that absolutely shocked you when it went a certain way?
Yvette Nicole Brown: That "seal oil" led to death was shocking, because we thought we were doing the right thing by saving it.
Felicia Day: And those were my favorite characters! I was like, "Nooo!" Because I really was pushing the seal oil on my game stream. I said, "Guys, it's going to come into play sometime."
It definitely came into play, unfortunately. You just don't know which way it's gonna go, which is how it is in The Walking Dead. If the apocalypse actually happened, and it feels like maybe we're almost there, do you think you would survive? How long would you survive? What would your game plan be?
Yvette Nicole Brown: There's times when I think I would be one of the last survivors. But then I think about it, and the kind people usually go first. You've got to be kind of cutthroat or ruthless, and I don't know that I have what it takes to be as nasty as I would have to be to survive. So, I would say I'd probably go pretty early.
Felicia Day: I do have a rain barrel of water in my house, and I do know how to grow tomatoes. Those are my two things.
Yvette Nicole Brown: Oh, let me come over. With water and tomatoes, you can live for a long time.
What would your weapon of choice be?
Yvette Nicole Brown: I want something that doesn't ever run out of ammo or get too dull. So, I've been dealing with bludgeoning. I'm thinking a hammer; a hammer gets it done. Because even if the little hook thing gets dull, you still can just bash away with it.
Felicia Day: Coach rifle maybe? Just something with infinite ammo.
I'd do a lightsaber.
Yvette Nicole Brown: I didn't even think about that. I could have picked something with infinite ammo. I've got a hammer, you've got a lightsaber. But I have no upper arm strength! Why would I pick something that I have to wield?
I just have to throw it in there. You said "Community" a lot throughout the day.
Yvette Nicole Brown: I didn't write the script! [Laughs] That was Tenneil [Cobb]! Tenneil put "community" in here like 50 times. [But] I'm excited about the movie too. It's gonna be great. The fans are gonna be really happy.
The Walking Dead: Last Mile's "Final Stream" airs tomorrow, November 11, on Facebook Watch.
