AMC's to complete work on the series.
The Walking Dead franchise has also already been affected by the coronavirus. Its female-led spinoff series The Walking Dead: World Beyond was slated to premiere April 12, the same day as The Walking Dead finale. However, AMC recently pushed the premiere to later this year, likely because of the coronavirus and its impact on production. As The Walking Dead: World Beyond is a limited series set in a different state than The Walking Dead, the network had some wiggle room with its airing.
Now, it seems the The Walking Dead finale won't air that night, either. Per a statement shared on The Walking Dead's Twitter, the finale won't air as planned due to the coronavirus. The show aired its 13th episode in a planned 16-episode season this past Sunday. Check out AMC's message about the early season 10 ending below:
In addition to production shutdowns, movie delays in particular have become commonplace over the last couple of weeks. Nearly every major release through early summer has been postponed. Just today, Warner Bros. announced the delay of it will now release in August, provided the coronavirus is under control by then. The news comes as theater chains nationwide have closed their doors indefinitely. This means that studios didn't have much of a choice. However, some are circumventing the issue entirely by releasing their movies early on home video.
Though fans are probably disappointed to hear this news about The Walking Dead's finale, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Networks like The CW have already started changing airing schedules in response to the coronavirus crisis. As shutdowns happened so close to the end of the season, many are in a similar place as The Walking Dead, just one or two episodes shy of completing their original orders. The good news is that fans will have something to look forward to later this year when the season 10 finale finally airs.
