Could Michonne's comic story in Black Panther. As The Walking Dead season 11 draws near, the series is rapidly entering the Commonwealth arc of the comic books, with Eugene leading the way to a meeting with this mysterious new community.
Unfortunately, one major element of the Commonwealth story simply can't happen with The Walking Dead's current cast. In Robert Kirkman's comic books, Michonne arrives at the Commonwealth to discover that her daughter Elodie, long presumed dead, is actually alive and well within the massive settlement. More than just an emotional reunion, Elodie is key to the Commonwealth material, as her presence gives Alexandria an emotional stake in the community that they wouldn't otherwise have. But with Michonne gone on TV, there aren't any other parent characters who could slip into neatly that role; every other character with children has their offspring ed for one way or the other.
A solution to this problem might be to bring back a former member of The Walking Dead's cast: Morgan Jones. Played by Lennie James, Morgan appeared in The Walking Dead's first season with his son Duane. He then resurfaced in season 3 alone before ing the cast properly in season 5. Following Fear The Walking Dead where he currently remains. Morgan could take Michonne's Commonwealth story from the comics because there is an element of ambiguity surrounding Duane's fate.
Unlike many youngsters in The Walking Dead, the audience never actually saw Duane's death scene, and this gives the series some room to work with. In fact, the only evidence of Duane's demise comes from Morgan in season 3's "Clear," who tells Rick that the boy was killed by his own walker mother. The returning Morgan is a deeply troubled man; utterly broken, hallucinating and detached from reality - hardly a trustworthy source of information. The Walking Dead leads its audience to believe that Morgan's psyche was broken by witnessing the death of his son, and that's almost certainly what was intended in season 3 because even after his mental health recovers, Morgan shows no uncertainty about Duane's fate. Since this all happened off-screen, however, The Walking Dead could subtly alter its own history. Morgan might've started losing his grip on reality before Duane was supposedly killed and misinterpreted the attack on his son. Duane then could've fallen in with other survivors and made his way to the Commonwealth, or realized his Dad was a liability and struck out alone.
Moving Morgan from Fear The Walking Dead back to The Walking Dead might take some narrative wrangling as there's currently a significant time gap between the 2 shows. Morgan would need to for his whereabouts over the past few years, as well as find a satisfactory enough reason to suddenly come back to Alexandria. If these points can be addressed, using Morgan and Duane as replacements for Michonne and Elodie appears to be the only realistic way of working The Walking Dead's 'long lost child' comic story into the TV adaptation.
The Walking Dead season 10 is currently on hiatus.
