The Walking Dead season 9 gets a brand new trailer teasing what comes after the show's midseason finale last night. Three weeks after Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) monumental final episode, AMC's post-apocalyptic series continues with twin threats coming from a familiar face in Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), as well as a brand new group of antagonists in The Whisperers.
The Whisperers debuted in a big way as Jesus (Tom Payne) becomes their first big kill in The Walking Dead as a warning against those who attempt to invade the group's territory. And from the looks of it, this is only the beginning of what's going to be a contentious dynamic between the new group and the Alexandrians.

AMC released a brand new trailer for what lies ahead in The Walking Dead following last night's midseason finale and it seems like the change will keep on coming with The Whisperers officially establishing them as a formidable threat to Alexandria. The clip also includes the first peek at Whisperers Alpha (Samantha Morton) and Beta (Ryan Hurst). Based on early comments from those involved in the series, they will be mostly sticking to how The Whisperers, especially their most notable , were depicted in the pages of the comic books which will undoubtedly delight long-time fans of the post-apocalyptic franchise. Meanwhile, Negan, who appears to be back on the limelight after being imprisoned in the first half of the show's current outing, gets some focus as well. Watch the trailer below.
With Negan able to escape his imprisonment following his interaction with Gabriel, it's interesting what his next move will be. Considering how long he's been in isolation, it's possible that he may have changed for the better - especially after his conversation with Maggie (Lauren Cohan), which led to her deciding to spare his life despite plotting his murder for the longest time. That said. given his mischievous and cunning nature, it's best to not be too trusting of him.
It will be quite a wait for a brand new episode for the post-apocalyptic series - not returning until the second week of February as it takes on its mandatory winter hiatus. The midseason premiere for The Walking Dead titled "New Enemy" backs up what fans have seen in the series' latest preview with much of the spotlight shining on The Whisperers as they establish themselves as the newest community in the narrative. It's interesting if they will have something to do with Negan considering that both of them are still technically threats to Alexandria and the Kingdom.
