Despite the hope by viewers, there's one specific character from Robert Kirkman. Voiced by Melissa Hutchinson, Clementine was one of the game's protagonists, starring in three Telltale titles before Kirkman partnered with Skybound Entertainment for The Walking Dead: The Final Season. The move was made to effectively end the series following Telltale's sudden closure.
Clementine, often referred to as "Clem," made her Walking Dead debut in 2012 when the character was 8-years-old. According to the first episodic video game installment, Clem took refuge in the treehouse at her suburban Georgia town shortly after the apocalypse. She then met Lee Everett, a man who vowed to protect Clem and reunite her with her parents. As the series progressed, Clem lost many people that were close to her but she also became the protector of a young boy named AJ.
Toward the end of the final video game installment, Clem, now 16-years-old, was bitten in the leg by a walker. She urged AJ to kill her in an effort to allow him to escape a horde of walkers. Instead, he amputated his leg to save her from the infection. Clem then became the leader of a group of survivors. Based on her status in the Walking Dead universe, there has been a resurgence of interest in seeing her in the live-action TV series or any live-action spinoffs. The mediums have crossed over in the past with in-game appearances by characters like Hershel, Glenn, Michonne, Siddiq, and Jesus. Kirkman, however, has indicated that Clem will never be introduced on the TV show, keeping the character's presence a "unique experience" outside of the live-action title. That said, there's still some hope that Clem could have a future in the comics based on a recent tease by Kirkman.
The Walking Dead comic book, which launched the franchise in 2003, came to an end in July 2019. Consisting of a total of 193 issues, Kirkman seemingly stepped away from the original series but that won't be the end of comics set in the universe. A one-shot story by Kirkman and Charlie Adlard titled P.S. Clementine Lives." This has hinted that Clem could make an appearance in the one-shot, opening the possibility of a future for the character in comics.
Since Clem survived the events of the video game, fans would surely be interested to see what her future holds in the post-apocalyptic world. The character is still so young and there's a lot of her story left untold. A new comic book series focused on Clem entering adulthood could be beneficial for The Walking Dead. The TV series could continue having its own focus while Kirkman's comics could steer off in a new direction.
