Marvel Studios made some minor changes to the post-credits scene of Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now moving forward with its highly-anticipated Phase 4. What makes this new wave of content stand out is that it will cover both TV shows and movies, further expanding this connected universe, and it kicked off on Disney+ with the miniseries WandaVision.
Set a couple of months after the events of Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision reunited viewers with Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) as they lived an idyllic suburban life in the town of Westview, in New Jersey. However, Westview turned out to be a fake reality created by Wanda out of grief, made worse by the presence of Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), who wanted to take Wanda’s chaos magic. By the end of WandaVision, the residents of Westview broke free from Wanda’s reality, White Vision escaped, and Agatha was trapped in her Agnes persona in Westview. Wanda became the Scarlet Witch, and a post-credits scene teased a bit of what her role will be in the near future, but this was slightly altered to add a reference to Doctor Strange.
The scene sees Wanda in self-imposed isolation in a cabin in the woods, where her physical self is enjoying a cup of tea at the porch while a projection of her, in full Scarlet Witch costume, is reading the This has already been debunked by other fans, pointing out that it’s most likely an editing mistake, but the connection to Doctor Strange through the music is a lot better than having him physically appear.
Before WandaVision’s final episode was released, there was a lot of speculation about the characters who could show up at some point, more so as the cast (especially Paul Bettany) teased the audience about surprises, and given the show’s connection to WandaVision is all about Wanda’s grief, how she dealt with it, and her self-discovery journey, and having Strange appear even if just for a few seconds would have taken the attention away from her story. The theme playing in the background is a more subtle way to link the show to the movie, more so as the Darkhold already has a connection to the first Doctor Strange movie as it’s the book that was missing in the library at Kamar-Taj, so it’s yet another subtle link to the Sorcerer.
It’s to be seen if WandaVision’s post-credits scene will be included in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or how it will impact Strange’s second solo adventure, and while fans would have loved to see him in the series, it’s better for Wanda, for him, and the MCU in general that he didn’t show up, and instead link these two through music.
