Warning! SPOILERS ahead for episode 3 of Marvel's WandaVision.
Why did Wanda banish Geraldine in the most recent episode of Marvel's WandaVision" little town of Westview.
In the third episode of Wanda's first child Tommy. Vision and the doctor arrive soon after to help deliver Billy as well.
However, things became quite dramatic near the episode's end when Vision walks the doctor out of the house, leaving Wanda and Geraldine alone. In Geraldine's excitement about the surprise of twins, Wanda reveals that she herself was a twin, and that she had a brother named Pietro. This seems to trigger something within Geraldine, and she comments that it was Ultron who killed him in Avengers: Age of Ultron, revealing her awareness of the true reality and the past. This immediately puts Wanda on the defensive, and she soon realizes that Geraldine doesn't belong in her town, noticing the sword necklace around her neck. While Geraldine stammers and struggles to regain control of the situation, she's quite literally thrown out of Westview by Wanda and back into the real world. The episode ends with an array of SWORD agents rushing to help her as she's sprawled out on the grass just outside of the town, which is covered by a mysterious forcefield.
Reports suggest that the actress playing Geraldine (Teyonah Parris) is actually playing the Marvel Comics character Monica Rambeau, an agent of the new organization in the MCU known as SWORD. As such, it appears as though Geraldine was a cover identity, and she had been sent in by SWORD to perhaps monitor Wanda in this fantasy world she (or some other party) created around the town. However, it's possible that the fantasy might have gradually taken over, causing Monica to forget about her mission and the truth as she became further assimilated into the fiction. It was only when Wanda let her guard down about her brother Quicksilver that Monica ed her true self.
Monica's awareness about the real world appears to be a clear threat to the happy ending Wanda has fabricated for herself and her resurrected husband Vision. As soon as Wanda discovers that Monica doesn't belong — and is a threat to this "perfect" life — she's rejected. This follows the pattern that's been set in previous episodes of WandaVision "rewinding" time whenever the fantasy is broken. While SWORD has consistently been trying to communicate with Wanda and sending agents inside like Monica, it looks as though they're going to have to come up with a new strategy. As WandaVision continues, it will be interesting to see if Monica will be able to get back into Westview, or is she's truly been banished permanently by Wanda now that she's been caught.
