Plenty of details about Disney+ streaming service, which launched late in 2019
The Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
A series solely focused on Scarlet Witch and Vision will inevitably deal with the fallout of Avengers: Infinity War, which saw the couple die in different ways at the hands of Thanos. How these two resume their relationship and their lives will be interesting to watch unfold over the course of a TV series. It will be doubly interesting to see how they develop as characters and what new adventures will come their way. With this in mind, here's what we know about WandaVision.
Elizabeth Olsen And Paul Bettany Will Return
Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen will reprise their respective roles as Vision and Scarlet Witch in WandaVision. Confirmation of their return was included in the April 2019 announcement about the five TV series Marvel would be making for the soon-to-be-launched Disney+ streaming service. Olsen is confirmed to continue playing Scarlet Witch in future MCU films. Depending on how Vision is brought back from the dead, Bettany could play him in more Phase 4 and 5 films, too.
Bettany has been a part of the MCU since the very beginning of Phase 1 with 2008's Captain America: Civil War, after he was tasked with guarding her at the Avengers headquarters. The pair developed a loving, albeit very protective, relationship with one another, which only made it harder to watch Infinity War when it became clear Thanos would come for Vision and the Mind Stone.
Vision's Return On WandaVision Needs To Be Dealt With
Thanos' snap at the end of Infinity War, his death is considered a permanent one, unlike Scarlet Witch who disappeared because of it and was returned at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Since WandaVision is set after the events of Endgame, Vision's return will throw a major curveball that is unavoidable, and will no doubt be a central focus of the show.
No mention has been made about how exactly Vision will return in WandaVision. During Marvel's San Diego Comic-Con 2019 presentation, studio head Kevin Feige teased the show was "unlike anything we've done before" and series star Elizabeth Olsen hinted "we're gonna go weird, we're gonna get deep, we're gonna have lots of surprises." With these two hints in mind, there are a number of ways Vision could be brought back. Considering Scarlet Witch's powers are derived from an Infinity Stone, she could opt to try and recreate Vision herself. Another possibility would be bringing Vision back from a different universe, an option available to Scarlet Witch when she teams up with Doctor Strange and possibly goes into the multiverse with him.
Monica Rambeau Is Involved In WandaVision
MCU's Phase 5 schedule, and would naturally involve her given her history with Carol Danvers.
In Marvel Comics, Monica becomes a superhero after she is bombarded with extradimensional energy emitted by an energy disruptor weapon made by a criminal scientist. The accident happens while working as a lieutenant in the New Orleans Harbor Patrol, making Monica one of the many average citizens-turned-superheroes, a common trope in comics. She's given the name Captain Marvel by the media, but over the course of her comics run, she's taken up various names including Photon and Spectrum. Monica's powers include superhuman speed, strength, invisibility, and flight, as well as the ability to phase through any object and emit energy blasts; she can also transform herself into any energy within the electromagnetic spectrum. Given her transformation, she is also functionally immortal, and doesn't appear to age or physically experience the various effects of aging.
Darcy Lewis & Jimmy Woo Will Also Be Part of WandaVision
In addition to Captain Marvel's Monica Rambeau being a cast member on Wandavision, two other prior MCU characters are returning for the Disney+ series as well. Kat Dennings will reprise her role of Darcy Lewis from Thor and Thor: The Dark World, which makes sense, since her old boss Jane Foster is also back in the MCU. Also, Randall Park will once again play FBI agent Jimmy Woo, who was in charge of Scott Lang's parole in Ant-Man and the Wasp. It's unclear how either character fits into WandaVision's still very mysterious story.
WandaVision Connects To Doctor Strange 2
strong enough to take out foes like Thanos. Unfortunately, she just hasn't had the proper amount of time onscreen to develop those powers or use them outside of a battle. Thus, the idea of getting to see her work alongside Doctor Strange, a.k.a. the Master of the Mystic Arts, will offer some fun and necessary character development for Scarlet Witch.
It also makes sense both WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2 are connected, considering the latter will tap into the multiverse. Although unconfirmed, it's hard not to wonder whether WandaVision traveling back to the 1950s has something to do with Doctor Strange and the multiverse. Could he possibly open up a doorway into the past in another universe for the couple? Then again, this begs the question, are the events of WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2 happening simultaneously or in a linear fashion? Both would be solid options to keep these properties tied together, but neither has been addressed by those in the know.
WandaVision Release Date
WandaVision is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ sometime in December 2020, although an exact date hasn't been confirmed. However, since production was forced to stop in March 2020 thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, and it's unclear when it will resume, WandaVision may well end up pushed back to a 2021 release. WandaVision is one of five Marvel TV series premiering on Disney+ over the course of a year with direct ties into other MCU films.
In the case of WandaVision, that tie-in is to Doctor Strange 2, which itself has been delayed to 2022, and is now set to close out Phase 4. Other Marvel TV shows debuting on Disney+ through 2021 include The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If...?, and Hawkeye, but again, that release timetable may well get thrown out, depending on how long the Coronavirus keeps Hollywood shut down.
WandaVision Trailer
During the 2020 Super Bowl, Disney+ released a combo trailer for some of its Marvel Studios series, WandaVision among them. The footage is scattered throughout the video, but it appears to confirm a prior rumor about Scarlet Witch and Vision's twins from the comics being brought into the MCU. It also shows that in addition to the prominently marketed 1950s sitcom setting, other classic TV receives nods as well. As usual though, the trailer still reveals precious little about the plot.
