Warframe is getting a new expansion, Heart Of Deimos, and it gives players another open-world location in the galaxy to land on. It will be released August 25th on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, when players can jump into a totally new world and explore from the surface to the tunnels beneath.
Heart of Deimos is a living moon, located early on the star chart progression. While there are many Borderland's high-energy character, Claptrap, who helps guide the player through the first few steps on the world. With this in mind, players both old and new can feel like they are making a difference as part of the larger universe. And players are making a difference, as Heart of Deimos will unveil 2020's second Warframe, community-designed Xaku. A gender-neutral Warframe, they hold the power of the Void and take on a broken-looking design, showing exposed pieces of metal and plasma rope.
The TennoCon 2020's Heart of Deimos gameplay demo on the official Warframe Youtube channel shows off Mars' second moon, writhing with dangerous creatures and red, pulsing pockets ready to burst open with Entrati enemies transformed by the satellite's Infested hive mind. This expansion follows the game's two previous open worlds, Plains of Eidolon and Fortuna, but with a twist. Heart of Deimos will uncover the Infested's origins, as well as provide more Entrati lore. Players will be able to traverse the terrifying surface of the world, a living landscape, underneath which two giant tunneling beasts fight for control over day and night. Players can explore a procedurally generated network of tunnels underground, diving deep into the horrifying Entrati experiments and the secrets of the Infested.
Some remaining Entrati-made technological creations are huge, powerful "combat mechs" that players will have access to. These Necramechs are much slower than a Warframe, but are outfitted with some heavy armor and weapons that deal some impressive damage. These will add to the list of combat choices the game offers. The universe isn't the only thing getting an addition, as player's Orbiters will soon have the Helminth Chrysalis system waiting for them in the Infested Room. This allows players to remove an ability from one Warframe and put it into another, a first for the free-to-play phenomenon.
Heart of Deimos will feature a host of additional features, like K-Drives (first introduced in Fortuna) coming back with some surprise combat and open-world elements like conservation, fishing, and Archwing flying. Warframe can be a daunting game to jump into, but Digital Extreme is treating the expansion as a place for new players to get into the game, placing it in an accessible spot for first-time players.
Warframe is available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
